Here's a Simple Blueprint For Making Money From Your Website

14 replies
Here is a simple blueprint that I have posted that if followed, will let anyone build
a sustainable business and income online.

Anyone can do it, even a beginner.

After you have chosen the market you want to enter...

1) Do keyword research for your market using the "Google autocomplete" feature. You really don't need any other tool.

** The autocomplete feature is when Google tries to automatically complete what you started typing into the search box. I recommend turning off the new "google instant" and just start tying in the main search box at google.com and take note of drop down results google gives you based on what you started typing.

Google ranks these results based on popularity and your location.

2) Take the main general word your market is for or about, like "golfing" and branch off from there, adding words to this starting keyword. Add words before your starting keyword as well as after your starting keyword.

Become a person in your market and search what they would be searching for.

examples of words to add on are: tips, help, advice, buy, sale etc.

[b]** Tip:[b] don't just think of a problem your market has...think of a level of experience they are at with the market: beginner, expert, etc.

Don't underestimate the importance of this stage as it lets you really get a feel for what the market is looking for.

Write down the keywords that apply to the website/blog you are creating and keep them in the order Google ranks them. The higher up the keyword, the more people have typed that exact search into Google looking for information or a solution.

When you have a decent amount of keywords, around 50 or so to begin, you should have a good sense of how these keywords can be grouped together. These groups will form the categories of your website/blog

As a generality, these "category" pages will be the shorter keyword phrases (2 or 3 words) and the bulk of your content will be made up of pages optimized for longer keyword phrases.

3) Now you have to go through your list of keywords from most searched to least and figure out which keywords you have a chance to rank for.

Traffic Travis is a great and simple tool for this. Their seo tool returns a rating of 1 to 5 stars as to how easy it is to rank in the top 10 or 20 for that keyword.

If your keyword phrase is dominated in the top 10 by large sites that have been around a long time, and Google looks on them as high authority sites, it's going to be very hard to break into the top 10 in a short time if you ever can.

In using Traffic Travis, a keyword you are testing gets a ranking of less than 3 stars, don't even bother, at least not in the beginning.

4) Pick a keyword phrase that you have a chance to rank for, one at a time, and createor get content for it.

** Try to focus on 1 keyword phrase per page. Sometimes you may want to combine 2 keyword phrases if they are very similar (solve a similar problem, there is only 1 word difference between the 2 keyword phrases, etc) and if they are longer tailed keywords that do not get searched for nearly as much as other keywords.

You should now create a piece of written content that is optimized for the person searching for this specific keyword phrase. Don't worry about the search engine yet, focus on giving the person what they are looking for,

If someone types in a keyword phrase looking for tips on something, make the content about tips on that something.

If someone is looking for information about something, give them information about something.

Give them what they want plain and simple and you will make money.

Here are 3 ways to help you get or create content.

a) you can reprint an article from an article website and add your own personal spin or summation of it so you add something original to the article - always giving credit to the original source of course.

b) If you are an expert in the market, it should be fairly easy to write your own content. Here are 4 great format's to use to structure your content

* how to
* review
* list (5 ways to...)
* faq's

c) If you are not an expert in the field then research and surf online and become the documentor. Tell people about your research, what you did, what you thought you would find, what you found out, what surprised you, etc. But of course tie it into what they have typed into the search engine to find your page.

5) Optimize your content so it ranks high in Google Search Results.

There are, of course, "offsite" things that matter to get you ranked highly, but onsite is ultra important as well and you can control it very quickly.

A few of the key things to make sure of that will help Google rank you higher are...

a) The most important thing to get right for your on page SEO is the Page Title. In HTML, that is the <title> tag: Make the Title of the page: "Keyword Phrase"

For example, if your keyword phrase is "golfing tips for seniors" than the Title of this page should be exactly: golfing tips for seniors

No added filler in the title tag. If you have optimized this content for 2 keywords try to combine them as best you can.

b) Any images in the page should have the keyword: golfing tips for senior as the "alt" tag

c) try to have the keyword golfing tips for seniors as early in the first paragraph as possible and as close to the last word in the content as possible.

d) You can put the keyword phrase in the content itself and emphasize it by either bolding or italicizing it.

Just write naturally and try to fit it in the content. Don't worry too much about this and don't get caught up in something like trying to fit it in once every 100 words or something like that.

e) make sure the content has related words with your keyword phrase so Google knows the content is really about the topic you are going after. For example, if you are going after the keyword phrase golfing for seniors, Google may expect to see other words in your content like - club, golf course, golf cart, how the green breaks, etc.

6) Add different monetization depending on if the visitor is a buyer or information seeker.

Buyer keyword phrases have words that one would associate with buying something like:

buy, sale, cheap, quality, etc.

Information keyword phrases have words associated with just getting information about something like:

how to, advice, help, tips

If someone is searching for a buying keyword like "golf clubs for seniors" then your content should monetize by having affiliate links to golf clubs designed for seniors.

If someone is searching for an information keyword like "swing tips for seniors" then your content should have a strong call to action to get them on to your opt-in list so perhaps they will buy a product you recommend at a later time when they do become a buyer.

Give them the content they searched for and then tell them to opt-in to your list. I repeat, tell them to and don't just hope that they do it on their own.

You can also monetize by showing contextual advertising like Google Adsense, and showing affiliate links to information products related to what they searched for.

----

When you're done with this...

1 - Repeat the process for multiple keyword phrases in the same market...

2 - Repeat the same process for a brand new site in a different market...

Congrats, You are on your way to building a sustainable internet business - not chasing the latest "must have" tool or trick of the week.

      There really is no benchmark for this because of the different markets out there.

      I would say to shoot for 2 - 3 months if you put the effort in such as creating new pages daily, building a list, and using good traffic strategies. However, remember, if you are not selling your own products, when you get paid will be backlagged by a month or so.

    Question.
    When using traffic travis I noticed it gave me 4 stars "Relatively Easy" and most of the top 20 were high aged domains and high PR's.

    Also I'm a beginner would you suggest I stride to go for a "Medium competition"

      Even if the top 10 or 20 seem to have aged domains and high pr's...I have found that many times their onsite SEO is not very good and there are not a very high number of backlinks to the particular page that is ranked. In other words it wouldn't be very hard to break into the rankings doing what I outlined above.

      I would suggest going for only 4 or 5 star rankings at first

    Good information. That is something I am working on. I created 1 niche site so far, but I have stopped creating backlinks because I got caught up on another project. I feel like I chose the wrong niche though, because I find it difficult to monetize. Using your advice I will add some stuff to it and hopefully get it making money soon.

      It's amazing how backlinks can be created for you if you simply ask people at the end of an article or post to share it using the sharing/bookmarking icons

    Be careful of the results you get when analyzing your competition. You could be looking up a general phrase and not an exact phrase. This can throw off everything. Traffic Travis might show the competition to be very light for a phrase but the reason might be because very few sites are targeting that exact phrase. You would think that is a good thing, right? Maybe... Maybe not... The reason many sites might not be targeting the EXACT phrase is because that exact phrase might not be getting any traffic. So always check the exact phrases you are researching so you are not picking up broad phrase data.

    I am not too familiar with Traffic Travis. I only use MarketSamurai. I am not sure how good TrafficTravis is at seeing this.
