Should I include a One Time Offer after the subscriber opt-in?

I was wondering if I should include a OTO (One time offer) at the end of my opt-in? For example, my prospect opt in to get my free plr articles. Once they sign up, they will be brought to a OTO page. Should I have that or should I just follow up with a welcome email and send them an offer 2 - 3 days later.

Your thoughts?

I personally don't like it when that happens to me. I would rather receive a few emails with good content from someone on what I opted in for first, then you can start selling to me. It gives me a chance to get to know you.

    Why not test it out?

It's one of those things where opinions don't outweigh the test results.

    Cheers,

I agree. Testing both methods with a program like Google Website Optimizer, and comparing results will give you the answer to your question. If the difference of the test results is negligible, I'd go with the standard welcome e-mail and follow ups.

I think OTO is very good tool we have in our hand. We already have the reader in our list, then just offering OTO is not harmful. What will happen, he will just close down the page, but If he got interested in your OTO then... nothing to say. Now you can concentrate on your OTO quality.

I think you need to give them a REASON to opt in. The more you can sweeten the pot to get them to opt in, the better, and giving something away for free is a great reason.

Then have your autoresponder set up to send a welcome email too. 2-3 days later send a content rich email and obviously keep doing so.

I'd agree with Neil and David. I'll test it out.

Depends also on your goals. If it's going to be a big list building project
or you pay for lead generation, then add an offer after they confirmed subscription.

It can be a link to an article, a free-trial, or pre-sell page.
But if you have a good followup sequence, conversion will be higher after few emails.

  • It's ALL about improving that all important conversion rate. You should test things out. Things definitely depend on your industry and your customer base and audience. If the OTO brings you more business then do it. If not, then obviously, don't.

The thing is that OTO is an example of a "call to action". And since yours IS an OTO then you have just developed a call to action that has a sense of urgency, hence the "one time" part. In my mind, no matter the industry any kind of call to action that has a sense of urgency will ultimately help your bottom line. The psychology behind this is that humans almost have a need to be part of something exclusive. Since this one time offer is an example of this, you will sell more then if you just make it an offer instead of a one time offer. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions. Kevin

If the OTO is related to your free report/course then you might get a good conversion rate. Also , you can do both. You can put the OTO, and then on 4 or 5 follow to put again the offer. But till the 4 follow up, you must provide value to your list , to get credibility!
