On the homepage of Paypal.com it says:

OUR LOGO CAN MAKE YOU MONEY
Online shoppers feel safer seeing the PayPal logo. Add it to your site today.

Any truth to this?

i guess to me it is just another notch in the post. It isn't really reliable by any means (and could surly be abused).

When you say it isn't reliable, I'm not sure what you are getting at. Has anyone run AB tests?

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I misread the post, hah, sorry! I was speaking about the Paypal Verified logo. I think Paypal itself, i am more empt to purchase from them, but that is just my personal opinion because i like Paypal.

no solid evidence here, but it seems to me that anytime people see logos they trust, even in the corner of their attention, they're on some level apt to trust the environment. think of bars with lots of beer signs all over. feels comfortable, no matter which bar the folks usually drink at. familiarity. trust. my two cents.

Well I don't know if PayPal's LOGO CAN MAKE YOU MONEY but I definitely know that PayPal is making money like no other payment gateways. I guess now its time for a new payment gateway giant to come inn.

In my experience it seems to be more trusted than others but I have no evidence to back this up. In the past when I offered products without an option for paypal I had a few ask me if I would. I've since added their logo to many of my sites and it appears to create trust. That's mostly speculation on my part. I'd be curious what others had to say about this also.

This is an interesting topic..to be honest ive never thought of the paypal logo on my my sites as an object to help boost conversions! I think some serious testing would be needed to see if their logo really did make a REAL difference in conversions.

Just think of the better business bureau that logo and name alone closes deals for contractors and people like that so yeah it creates a sort of credibility.

I can see why. Most online products are bought using PayPal so and a lot of people trust the service. What I do is create a "Buy Now" image and put a PayPal image below it.

i think there is some truth to it, people like names that are big and they feel they can trust them. I use paypal all the time and have had no issues, any site using them i would be more inclined to use rather than another payment processor.

There is definitely some truth there imho. Personally, I dislike entering my credit card details directly into a site; however, I have no qualms paying anyone by Paypal. And I am sure that plenty of other people feel that way too.

Personally I loathe PayPal... however on one of our bigger sites where people could pay by paypal or by a payment gateway that directly asked their card details (under ssl) we still had about 70% of sales go through PayPal.

Just be aware that any sudden spike in sales can have them locking your account. Sometimes it's easy to get unlocked... sometimes it can take months. Personally I long for a serious competitor (Google checkout doesn't count as it's not usable outside the US / UK)

Definitely brings some new thoughts to life, I myself would probably feel safer in essence seeing the Paypal logo funnily enough

It just might work. Tests anyone ? ;o

I'm tired of the way PayPal treats sellers. I really hope Google Checkout blows them out of the water.

My account has been limited twice over the last 2 months, and just 2 days ago it happened again because of "anti laundering" laws in Australia. Sheesh.
