Global Monthly or Local Monthly

When using the Google Keyword Tool, do you look at the global monthly figure or the local monthly figure?

I can't remember if it had both options on the old tool, this new tool has thrown me a bit, I don't like it.

It was there in the old KW tool too. Use whatever one suits the info you are looking for. Global monthly is what it says, total searches for all Google sites combined. Local is the search count for whatever country you have selected in the search options.

I personally look at the local search volumes. The local is “specific to your targeted country and language as well as your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu.” The global column “includes traffic in all countries and languages and is specific to your selection from the Match Type drop-down menu.” HTH!

In all honesty I just pick a number thats in between them both and go with that... It may depend on what youre doing keyword reasearch for but I also only use Phrase or Exact (never Broad)

    Hope it helps!

Thanks guys, I am using exact but just wasn't sure on global or local. I have US as the selected country but am guessing this niche would suit worldwide, but possibly not those with different languages.

Actually a number in between might be about right. I just went and did the search in US, UK and Australia and added the local results and it came roughly in the middle of local and global when I search just US.
