What do you do when someone wants to share your product?

Wondering how other Warriors handle it when someone wants to share their digitally downloaded product with a family member who lives elsewhere. This is in reference to my affiliate marketing course and I have a customer who wants his daughter to be able to help him. Where do you draw the line?

Pretty sure I know what I'm going to do (I think) but I always like to get the input of others I respect. Thanks!

That wouldn't worry me at all. I'd be impressed if they asked my permission first though. It really depends on the style of your product though and if it is going to be detrimental to other buyers.

I am sure the buyer would be impressed if you do allow it and this will probably be more worthwhile in the long run than selling one product - if they do decide to buy another copy.

Edit: He will probably give a glowing testimonial if you do allow it.

Hi Laura, wasn't going to leave a comment but I see you're from the UP (I'm in Southern MI). You can't lose either way. Technically, the answer is that their son or daughter should have to buy it. But, ya know, I've found that a little "good deed doing" isn't such a bad thing. I think you'd have a better feeling inside if you gave their kid one.

I use a post office box which is downtown. I pick my mail up every other day or so. One day this sickly, hobo-looking guy comes up to me inside the post office giving me a sob story how he needs a cab to get to his doctor and get a new prescription for his meds.

Against my better judgment I pull out $20 and give it to the guy. He walks out, across the street, and gets on a city bus, which at the time cost $1.25 I think. He scammed me.

But even though 90% of the time you get burned doing good deeds, the other 10% are worth the chance I guess. Why not let 'em download it? You'll probably sleep better and maybe you'll get some good word of mouth promotion from the guy.

I could be wrong though  --Mike

    Hi Laura,

I look at it as a way of paying it forward - yes in theory you should probably charge for the guy to share it with his daughter, but for me at least the money wouldn't be worth it - I would get more satisfaction out of knowing that he told me at least and wish him well. He will hopefully come back at another time and find a way of saying thanks - and even if he doesn't and he is like the chap Mike mentioned you still feel good for knowing you did a nice thing.

    Have a great day
    Lisa

I'd let him do it - in a way that lets him (kindly) know you are doing him a special favor. Could end up with two long term customers that way.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.
