Amazon have their own merchant accounts that provide
      smaller transaction fees than PayPal.

Amazon are mainly in a low margin business so these type
      of transactional costs are important.

      Magic word is competition
I would say the main reason Amazon does not accept PayPal is because, PayPal is owned by eBay and eBay is one of Amazon's prime competitors!

    I never understood why either.
It's the reason I don't buy books at Amazon.

    I buy at BetterWorldBooks.com instead.

Service charges. PayPal charges the seller some percentage on the transaction. Whatever it is, it's higher than the percentage charged by credit card companies.

Would you consider using a payment system owned and controlled by your main competition? I wouldn't.

If it meant a big boost in sales, I might.
