Sell Memberships OR Only Download?

Hey.

I'm about to release my new product though I have a dilemma

I'm not sure whether to sell it just as a regular download where people pay and redirected to the downloads page and that's it
OR...
Sell it as a membership site where people pay and then they are provided with a username and password to the members only pages.
In the members only pages they'll be able to download their product.

Which would you prefer as a potential buyer?

I do have plans on my mind about adding a forum later on but that's only after I'll have a decent amount of customers...

So, What's your opinion on that?

    If you have something to offer in the member's area to offer then it makes sense, else why waste your and their time?

    If you have bonuses, product upgrades, etc that you wish to offer to your users. ... in that case a membership section would be valuable.

    I do have bonuses but I intend to make them available for download right after they make their payment along with the main product...

    Then it is fine ... just offer a simple download after payment option.

    You can make it optional for your users to create their account on your forum or optin to your list so you can keep in touch with them and keep them posted on the status of the forum and the membership section (if you intend to add one later).

      If you only have a downloadable product selling membership doesn't make sense.

      Here's another consideration...

      If you set this up as a membership you are giving yourself a marketing tool in the form of the member's area.

      You can continue to add new bonuses, upgrades, updates, special deals on your or other's products, new content that helps them consume your product (reduces refunds), and more.

      The key is giving them a reason to log back in.

      People like being "members" or "in the club" as well which speaks to having a members' area.

      If all you wish to do with this product is get the sale and provide the download then a thank you page can do it.

      If you go the membership route you do need to be prepared to make it worth their time.

    I do want to keep the members and possibly offer them more products in the future and special promotions through the members only pages...

    I think i'll do it in the memberships way
