Is it "frowned" upon to sell or rent out an e-mail list??

I have a list of about 50,000-60,000 e-mail addresses with names, physical address, and IP addresses. Was just wondering if selling or renting out this list is "frowned" upon in the IM community, or is it done all the time.

thanks

    Of course it's frowned upon.

Did the people on the lists give you explicit permission to
    sell their details on?

    Most likely not.

    So don't do it.

(I use unique e-mail addresses for my subscriptions so
I can trace who sells my details on).

    Yeah. It's not recommended.

Where did you get the list from?

I got the list the old fashioned way. Opt-in lists.

It's not just frowned upon, it is ILLEGAL.

You have to offer an opt in (and by buying a list these people have not opted in with you). And you have to list a valid opt out.

I'm pretty sure I would judo chop you if I found out you sold my email to someone else!

But seriously, not cool. You don't want to cause yourself a lot of headache down the road for a little bit of money now. There's just too many negatives related to doing something like this.

Yeah I am definitely not going to sell. It is not worth it. Plus i don't want to be one of "those guys". I will just keep doing adswaps and promoting my own products.

          best of luck,

You can do solo ads or adswaps. If you go to the Joint Venture section you will see all sorts of ad and swaps going on.

Why would you want to sell it anyway? That's a big list. Certainly you can monetize it, no?

It's not ethic to do such a thing. And , if someone catch you doing this, you can get in trouble, for selling their information. This is prohibited.Anyway, if you realy want to make money with the list, I think you can sell solo ads, make adswaps, or promote products!

    All the best,
