Newbie internet-marketer needs guidance with affliat-web's

Howdy everyone!

First post here, hope I got it in the right section in the right way following the rules.

I have been reading a bit lately about creating affliate-web's. Sites which pure intention is to sell a product through a affliate-link.

I have read a few e-books, many articles and a lot in forums about the subject. Seems like my goal should be to have as many of these as possible if I want to make a extra income from it.

I have done a bit of research so far. I found a product and some keywords I believe are really good. I think I know what to do next, but I want to post a summary here so I can get more tips. Also, just because I read a lot it doesn't mean I understand it the right way. If I missunderstood something perhaps you can point it out and save my day.

Product:
I have found one product I wish to sell (through clickabank). The product seems to be good and the comission is quite good, around 25$ per sale. I can relate to the product, and write about it. I got some knowledge about it as well.

Keywords:
I think I were a bit lucky with these. Turns out that the third product I look at is something I can relate to AND there is a ton of great keywords out there (At least if I got the idea of a good keyword right). I could probably find twenty more but here is five I picked out today.

Keyword #1:
Monthly views: 1 900
Hits inside "": 4 790
Hits in url: 3 510
Hits in title: 5
Very relevant to product.

Keyword #2:

Monthly views: 3 600
Hits inside "": 2 400
Hits in url: 975
Hits in title: 593
Very relevant to product

Keyword #3:
Monthly views: 18 100
Hits inside "": 5 400
Hits in url: 1 280
Hits in title: 603
Very relevant to product

Keyword #4:
Monthly views: 6 600
Hits inside "": 2 360
Hits in url: 581
Hits in title: 734
Relevance would be 4 on a scale from 1 to 5.

Keyword #5:
Monthly views: 12 100
Hits inside "": 8 230
Hits in url: 1 400
Hits in title: 856
Relevance would be 3 on a scale from 1 to 5.

My first question would be, how would you rank these keywords? From one to five, how good are they for setting up affliate-webs for a newbie?

Registering domains
All of these keywords have a .com, .net or .org domain available with exact match. Keyword.com, keyword.org and keyword.net.

I was thinking of registering them tonight, should I do so before I prepared my content?

Content
I was thinking of creating a site for every domain. My idea was to use WordPress for this. I am not looking to add a tremendous amount of content, just enough to get some attention from the search engines. I am thinking of setting the blogs up like this:

- 3 posts that introduces the site
- 3 posts reviewing the product
- A page about the site

Using keywords in titles, first & last paragraph and when suited in the text.

Plug-in's: All in one SEO pack and XML sitemaps

Article-marketing
This niche is something I know a bit about. I was thinking of creating an article for every keyword and submitting to various article directories.

Should I do this manually to the top-sites or will a bot do a better job than me? What bot would you recommend in that case? Are there any free ones that works?

Backlinking part I
Except for the links created by the articles, I was thinking of buying 50 sidebar-links for each blog. Is this good thinking? I believe I read here on the forum that sidebar-links are great since they show up on every page.

Backlinking part II
Once I am done with the backlinks above I was thinking of using one or two of the free tools to get a few thousand backlinks in order to get googles/yahoos/bings attention. Or is it risky to use these?

Possible revenue
I have been thinking a bit about how much it is possible to make on this type of sites. I have a goal of getting one sale per 2 000 hits. Is that realistic or even very low?

Summary:
- Will this be a good enough start to get me towards becomming #1 on the search engines for these keywords?

-Is there anything I missed or that you recommend me to do in any other way?

I am really gratefull for all the help that I can get with this. It would be really fun to get a good start here in order to keep me motivated.

Best Regards

Well, I want to be as detailed as possible. I rather type a few more letters than miss out on something important.

got some ideas for you ... but I have to take a walk to
concentrate my thoughts be back ....

I have to agree that this is one long question/post! I see Alexa (below)
has deliverd some great advice (saves me a lot of typing )

        in no particular order:

bot/help programs - have to recommend WF member, the ubiquitous
'Big Mike' all of his programs are modest in price and very very
good. -> Incansoft | Experience The Difference Today!

buying a domain for keyword or words: my thoughts on this are likley
to start friction! you do NOT have to buy a keyword rich domain to
rank well! can it help? sure, but is NOT that big a help. here is a
link to a google search "multiple vitamins"
        mulitple vitamins - Google Search
as you can see the first page is NOT dominated by keyword domains.
relevant (quality) content will always win out. you can also see that
most of the sites are ranking on the first page for internal pages,
showing that a non-keyword domain with a keyword rich page 'slug'
        can perform and perform well.

so save yourself some cash and choose a domain that is related to your
niche in a sort of 'over-niche' ... using my vitamin example, I would
think of a domain that was something related to 'health'. this way I would
be able to break my blog up into many heath related categories and then
traffic I sent to the 'vitamin' posts may also be interested in the other
categories! this also gives you the opportunity to (over time) develop
        of much 'denser' overall content.

thinking about list-building should be a major concern, and again I would
recommend that you aim for a larger 'over' niche. squeeze and offer a
report related to your clickbank product.

there are so many ways to recommend the product: on the page they
download the report, inside the report, in the follow up emails .... this is
something that you will have to find what suits you.

got to be off, but you are off to a decent start as you are thinking about
the whole process. I am sure some other useful posts will follow!

    Hi Waldemar,

Welcome. You've thought this through far more than most people do, and you deserve to do much better with it than most people do, and I think you will.

Brief thoughts only, from me ...

My important questions for you are:-

    1. Have you seen the product and do you know whether it's any good?

    2. You've said nothing about a list. You're not going to go to the trouble of doing all this detailed stuff so professionally but not build a list, I hope and trust?

    3. Is this a niche with other products available, some of which you can add later, to get optimal monetisation out of it?

Originally Posted by waldemar View Post

Nice easy one, there: you will almost unquestionably do it better and more reliably than any bot.

Originally Posted by waldemar View Post

I wouldn't dream of it, myself ... but don't let that put you off because I have no experience of doing so and may therefore not know what I'm talking about.

It's not "risky" in the sense that it can have any adverse effects at all on your sites' SEO, no - that's just an urban myth of internet marketing.

Superficially, it sounds low. I'm guessing the product sells at either $37 or $47 if you're getting about $25 commission?

      Thanks for the replies!

      Regarding domains:
It has come to my understanding that it is good to make your keyword appear in as many relevant places as possible. And I do believe that it has some impact on rankings.

Whenever you google something you will se that many of the top-ten pages has the keyword in their url's. Perhaps not in the domain, but in the url. My thoughts on this is that by having a domain like keyword.com all my pages will have thw keyword in their url.

Also I am able to get it to appear more than once, like keyword.com/articles/keyword.php. I don't know how much impact this has on the rankings, but since I still need to register domains I might as well go for ones liike mentioned.
It will also allow me to make keywords appear in relevant ways like "welcome to keyword.net" and signing posts like "waldemar, webmaster keyword.net".

I understand what you mean about having a wider niche. But then i need more content in order to make it look decent. As in your health example, I would rather create a vitamine site first. Once I am satisfied I would create one about diets. Once I have enough slim sites I could connect threm by creating "Waldemar's health network" and go crazy with crosslinking.

But what I try to do here is to create small sites that will rank high on the specific keywords. Perhaps not completely set and forget but with as little maintence needed as possible.

      @Alexa

      1. I would say the product is worth the money asked for.

      2. Forgot about that completely. For list building, what would you recommend?

I have writtem an e-book on a topic related to the one I am going to promote. Would it be a good idea to throw a site up, trade the book for e-mails and buy a 10 000 credit pack on a traffic exchange? These people wants things for free, I think I would have a decent conversionrate doing so.

Not sure how I am supposed to build lists through blogs though.

      3. Yes there is. Plenty

Regarding sales; The price is slightly below 40$. How many sales do you think would be realistic?

Another long post, guess I just have it in me...

Giving a free report (you don't necessarily have to call it "report", of course) in exchange for an opt-in has always worked well for me, with an Aweber opt-in (single or confirmed opt-in, depending on the niche).

        Opinions will differ.

In principle, beware of people saying "Traffic exchange traffic doesn't work at all because it isn't targeted". This is a good indication that people don't know what they're talking about, and that some of them have had a bad experience with TE's almost always by using them unwisely. The thing is, TE traffic is highly targeted if what you're offering them is about how to get traffic, because that's why they're there. Your product needs to be targeted to the traffic.

Not so good to build a list of freebie-seekers, though: from the later sales perspective, they may actually convert badly - it depends on how well targeted your offer is and how you nurture them.

With TE traffic (just like with safelist traffic, I think), you need to get them to opt in first, and nurture them on your list, rather than trying to make a quick sale.

More to the point, the product(s) you're (eventually) promoting need to be specifically relevant to people using traffic exchanges, otherwise you will find "them" untargeted (i.e. your offer won't be targeted at them).

Not being in the IM-advice niche, myself, I can say no more about this.

Just "with a prominent, incentivized opt-in offering your freebie". I put them in the sidebar and then they're on every page.

Some people will advise an exit pop-up (I wouldn't).

Nobody can answer this. It depends on who the people are (remember that "traffic" comprises "people"!), what they were looking for when they found you, how you pre-sell, what you send out to your list, what the offer is and how well it matches them, and so on, and so on ... "test, test, test"!

        Good luck!

          Thanks for the advice.

I guess the right thing to do now is to get started. I registered six domains this morning so I am going to spend the night installing WordPress and stat-tools for all the domains. Perhaps I will have time to start with one of the articles as well.

If I really put some effort to it I might be able to have the sites ready to get indexed by monday.

I will be updating in this thread whenever I get something done. That way I might be able to get some advice along the road.

          --

Is there any tool which I can use to check my current position when searching for a certain keyword?

          Best regards

    A lttile update:

I decided to start out with one keyword. So far I have done:
    - Set up wordpress with all in one SEO pack and XML sitemap
    - Posted six posts. Keyword in all titles. Keyword is mentioned about every 50 words
    - Opt in has been set up. Trading my e-book for e-mails
    - Ad for backlinks has been set up. No responses yet.

My next step (at least I think so ) is:
    - Review a product
    - Publish article using the bot mentioned by KEY
    - Post another ad for relevant backlinks

    Any opinions on my roadmap?

    Best Regards

    Update:

    - Reviewed a product
    - Written an article (Not published yet)
    - Backlinks has started to come (I expect around 35 sidebar links by the end of the day)

Now, what would the next step be?

I am going to submit the article tonight using the bot KEY mentioned.

I was hoping to get my hands on social bot as well, but my bank-account is empty until monday. I think that it would be a good thing to use before I get indexed.

Is there any free software like socialbot available?

    Best Regards

Update: So, I have not updated here but figured I would let you know how it is going. Using Scroogle Scraper I am ranked as #2, #3, #4 and #5. I have spent quite a bit of time on this and also spent 50$ on getting links. I just got my hands on socialbot and articlebot so I will set these up as soon as I have a little time. This currently brings me around 30 visits a day through search-engines. Most of the traffic stays for a while. 30 hits a day is 900 a month which is about half the traffic the keyword gets. It has 1900 searches every month so if I just could get the first rank as well... I am promoting two products at the moment and made one sale. That is one more than I actually expected. Found a fun surprise this morning. I was ranked 14th on a related keyword with a lot of searches every month, 135 000 to be exact. I am going to work with that one a bit. Best Regards

First time poster and rank newbie here....

In the initial post, waldemar reports "hits inside" as a statistic. Would someone please explain this term.

I really appreciate this post, as I am doing keyword research using Market Samurai and have not yet developed my keywords. I too am interested in affiliate marketing.

    thanks...
