E-mail marketing (does it work)

Hi Guys

A quick question

I'm new to all this so bear with me, i have come across a company selling e-mail lists, (web traffic marketing) one off payment, ability to send unlimited e-mails (into the millions).

Is it worth getting involved with this kind of marketing or is it a waste of time??

I know the pros because the website tells it all.

But what about the cons??

Some feedback would be helpful.

Email marketing works great if you build your own list and create a relationship the the list, but I've never bought a list like what you're talking about and I probably wouldn't. Save your money and build your own it will probably be more effective.

    I would not do it.
Drive laser targeted traffic to an opt-in page, give away something that will change their lives for free and get their emails there.
Then, for a month or two keep being the good guy who sends them valuable stuff and you can start selling them after you've became the "good guy" in their eyes.

These lists are not worth buying if you value your long-term
    business reputation.

What you're advocating is essentially spamming. For sophistacated
operators, spamming 'works' which is why they do it.

Save your money and your reputation.

Do e-mail marketing the right way - based on the permission
of the subscriber and some good old elbow grease.

    Dedicated to your success,

    Shaun

  • I would generate your own list of email addresses. Add a segment on your home-page with something like "Click here to join our mail list" and actually see how many people that already come to your website would be interested in email updates. I have something similar on my site, but instead of email its for blog. Check out my signature

If there is one piece of advice I wish I had taken more quickly, it is "build the list".

Build your own list! Some autoresponder companies like Aweber don't allow you to import this type of list and they will still have to confirm . . . my opinion don't do it. This is essential spam since they didn't 'ask' or 'request' your info and your have no proof of ip address etc to battle spam complaints.

Your own list may take longer but will me more effective

I think you can learn a lot from spammers and how they run the email marketing campaigns, they get HORRID conversion rates but their mass profits come from scale. When people want to build a list with opt-in features on their site or with FB ads, they almost never get a big enough list to see profits.

But obv. email marketing works, it's just that there are a lot of variables that are at work in every email marketing campaign and the #1 variable of the successful campaigns--volume--can't be replicated by 99% of IMers.

Rather than buying from a safe-list, I guess it's better you spend it on solo-ads through Warrior Joint Ventures. Though they do cost more, but you get better quality leads. My last solo ad was great and I managed to add 150 subscribers in a matter of days.

You can also check out safe swaps where you can find a lot of marketers with as low as just 100 subscribers doing email swaps.

Never ever pay money for someone else's list, you never know how they acquired the people in the first place.
As stated above, much better to connect with people who have come through your own squeeze pages.

    Best of luck

avoid going that route. email subscribers are one thing. having them opt into your list for your stuff is another. now days people are pissed off with people emailing them crap and its the fastest way to have that nice big list you bought reduced to a handful quickly and even that little list might not buy from you. I wouldnt equate an email list with conversion as its so much more than that.

Yeah definitely do not buy a list. Absolute waste of money. As for marketing to your list, yes it works, but don't despair if in the first few months of mailing to your list you aren't making much at all. Firstly you need to offer a lot of valuable free content to your subscribers before they learn to trust you and secondly you will have to contend with the reality that 10-15% wil open your emails, and 50% of those may actually click on your link and 2% of those will buy from your link. This is an average and of course some people on here may be doing much better, but don't believe the hype... It also helps if you can write good copy...if you can't, study the copy of emails that motivate you.

Its nothing but a waste of time.. The list would comprise of people that are not ready to check their mails again not to talk of seeing your campaigns... My best advice for you is to build your list (even if it takes years), your list is your list and not somebody else.
