    In short:
In affilate marketing you are paid commissions on products sold based on your referral.
Network marketing involves you, plus other distributors. In network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM) you are paid commissions on products sold based upon your referrals, plus commissions due to referrals of people you signed up to promote sale of products, plus commissions of sales due to referrals of people they signed up to promote product sales, and so on, normally down several levels of distributors.

Hi C2 and kbnor, I'm new here, but I'd like to contribute too.

If I'm not wrong some affiliate marketing companies do pay similarly to what kbnor explained regarding network marketing, and i think that affiliate marketing and network marketing are very similar or exactly the same, except that affiliate marketing is more known online.

However, i think that anyone that sells another person/company's product or service is already an affiliate.

    What do you think?

Yes, you are correct: There are several companies out there that promote their compensation plan as what can be termed multi-tier affiliate programs.

Hi, I'm both a network marketer and affiliate marketer and I've been on the forum for some time now, but I haven't really posted anything until now...and in response to this question the two are actually quite similar and affiliate marketing is definitely better known online. However, in the last few years there has been a shift of network marketers coming online and in order to do this successfully you have to blend the two of them together i.e. promote an affiliate product on the front-end that is in someway tied to the network marketing industry then you promote your company on the back end
