How should I handle the orders for services on the site I want to make

Hello,
I am in the process of building a site for offering services. How should I handle the orders? Should I make paypal buttons for every service and tell the customers to send me an email with the transaction id?

Also another question I have is: Should I build the site using wordpress or should I build it using dreamweaver and photoshop?

Thank YoU!

Hi - You could use a shopping cart and have a full checkout process - maybe using something like zencart -

however that really depends on what services you are offering and if you have enough

if not then maybe take a look at a site called hotscripts - it has some open source free coding you can make use of - im sure they will have many for managing orders -

    hope this helps

    thanks

As for building a site, I suggest you just go for a wordpress. Well, if you don't like wordpress, just follow your heart because that is where your treasure lies.

  • I use mals-e shopping cart for my services. The shopping cart is free and it integrates with quite a few payment processors. Paypal, Authorize net, Google checkout, etc. The service can be very annoying if you're trying to sell downloads but for services it can't be beat.

As for the site builder, I also recommend Wordpress. Personally I prefer Joomla but it can be overkill for some and it takes some extra attention for seo.

Not so sure what type of services you are offering. For a start, just make thing easy and fast, else you might end up not able to get thing done.

I suggest to setup your site with Wordpress. Get a matching nice theme for the site. Just use the paypal button to accept payment for the time being. You can redirect the buyer to a page after payment to update the detail for your service, eg description, paypal transaction id, etc.

You can always fine tune the process along the way.

I don't think it's good to use wordpress for an e-commerce website.

I would say it depends on the amount of services you have to offer. If it's just a few then PayPal buttons on a WP based site should be fine. If it's a lot then a cart or marketplace system would be better.

We've used the free Mals shopping cart for 6 years now on one of our sites and still have not had any problems. We also use authorize.net for payment processing.

i know i could be fancier too, but i use a shopping cart plugin on my site, then instruct the user to the email form to contact me. pretty plain jane. if i dont hear back in a few, i always email the paypal address. i'd like to have something set up where i can have them fill out a form after payment and email the form to me automatically but alas; i am not technically inclined :O
