Beginner...But not really

Hi,
Ok, here is the deal. I recently discovered this forum and it seems to have opened up a world of possiblities for me.

I currently run an adventure sports company with online advertising being my main source of advertising. From this, I have gotten quite good at Adwords, submitting articles to Ezines, SEO, Blogs, Landing Pages, Photoshop and Facebook advertising. I have even read some of the various pdf downloads from the various "gurus" like Frank Kerns, Jeff Johnson, etc (though never bought anything).

So after clicking around the Warrior Forum, I feel I have pretty good experience with most of the tools used in internet marketing.

But what I cant quite grasp, is where I should start for a product here? Basically, I would like to have something to promote online to use my current internet skills during our slow times of the year. I figure I already have a pretty good understanding of the tools used, it would just be a matter of tweaking and applying to this world.

Some basic questions that might get me in the right direction and mindset:
Is it worth ones time to promote a clickbank product? Or is it better to develop a product FOR clickbank?

Is there a thought of if its better to promote a high price item with fewer purchases or lower price with high volume?

Is there any literature or websites that discuss the various routes one can take in the internet marketing world?

Your feedback is much appreciated!
-Gabe

It definitely can be. You need answers from people who've done both, and I'm only an affiliate.

I do think, though, that being a vendor requires a very different skill-set (albeit obviously with a little overlap) from that required by affiliates. I'd suggest from your general comments above about internet marketing that maybe you already have quite a lot of the "affiliate's skill-set" in place, and that that might make a good starting place for you? I also suspect that experience of being an affiliate is more likely to be of value to becoming a vendor in future than the reverse.

Others' mileage may vary (and usually does) but my own gradually increasing feeling over the last 2 years - which is as far back as I can go - is that it's better in the long run to promote higher-priced items and make fewer sales. Especially in this economy. The recession has affected Clickbank marketing, overall, even though a few people's experience may be different from this. The way I look at it is that one needs recession-proof customers, at least to some extent, and if one can find them, it's better to be selling a $97 product than a $47 one. This is the way I've gradually been moving myself, anyway, with beneficial results. But an interesting question and one about which, I imagine, there'll be a wide range of views.

Apart from this forum, you mean? I'm sure the answer's "too much, and too many". The difficult thing is sorting out and learning to judge for oneself who really knows what they're talking about. With apologies for ending on a cautionary note, it's no bad thing to bear in mind that in a field of endeavour with such a low overall success-rate as Clickbank affiliateship, the "consensus view" of many issues will by no means necessarily be the right one. Welcome to the forum and good luck!

Gabe, I wasn't quite sure what you meant by the sentence I've clipped. Does your company promote/run actual tours, trips or events? Provide content about adventure sports and rely on advertising for revenue?

If you actually provide/promote activities or trips, you could help fill in the sales gaps by creating your own products about activities, destinations, equipment, etc.

You could act as an affiliate for companies that provide products and services to enthusiasts, adding your own expertise to your recommendations.

If you don't provide/promote actual experiences, could you hook up with the providers to generate leads for them?

Lots of ways to fill in the empty spaces...

How about start creating your own products using PLR or an outsourcer, make sure you have links in the product linking back to your website, put them on disc, produce at Kunaki.com, sell on ebay or craigslist.

Make yourself an authority in your niche! If you want to pick a different niche, there are a number of ways to make money every month. I like to have my students set their goals at $2k a month, then they build upward.

    Good luck

      Hi,
      Thanks for all the info...

Few things, I definetly feel like there is "too much" info out there...its almost paralyzing

Yes, we run our own tours. Kitesurfing tours to be exact. I like the idea of developing some more products and will look into it more.

Who is PLR? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

And last question...for now...after reading thru all this stuff, I realize my own site/landing pages/strategy could use some work. Are there consulting type people/companies that are worth looking into?

      Thanks again

PLR is an acronym for Private Label Rights. In this context PLR would consist of things like articles, short reports, even full products which you could change to suit you, claim as your own, and sell or give away.

Do a forum search for PLR or 'using PLR' and you'll come up with plenty of information.

As for consultants, providing online marketing services and advice to real world businesses is a growing specialty. If you want a peek behind the curtain before engaging one of these people, check out the Offline section of the forum...

promoting a click bank product is better I would imagine. But if you know what you are doing then create yours. But you have a great ambition so go ahead. You can google on the internet and find a free ebook you can download or a free PLR. There is alot of free stuff online. just add free to your keyword, for example free weight loss PLR.
    Hope this helps.

You can start it here itself. Or you can take some experts advice before starting this.

Start as an affiliate promoting products in a profitable niche. Once you are making money, create your own product. There are a lot of nuances in there of how to do this, I'll PM you a good place to learn at.
