MP3 downloads, or CD delivery: easiest or best way?

Im setting up some products to sell. I will be giving away the pdf versions in exchange for the email-and on the download page will offer either the downloadable audio version for sale or the cd version to be delivered by snail mail. Or possibly both. Now, my intended model is to go with offline cd sales, eventually adding in larger packages and so forth to be sold through postcards. But starting with single book cds.

My question is-should i bother to offer the downloadable mp3 version at all-or just go with the mailed cd's? I guess i dont want to miss any sales but at the same time want it to be as simple as possible. What do you think?

thanks for your opinions.

Personally, I have no interest in CDs. If I get a CD, I rip it to MP3 and then I'm stuck with storing the plastic disc somewhere.

I think offering a choice between MP3 or CD is a *service* to your customers. I don't see it being a complicated choice, so long as it's very clear. I would make a seperate "Buy Now" button for each version (rather than the drop-down box which can be overlooked).

Offering both versions is a good idea if you do not want to miss any sales.
But I think CDs are dead and have been dead for a while now.

People shop for products via internet and they do not necessarily want to wait couple of days for delivery.

But, again, you might get some old fashioned customers who just have no idea how to download mp3 files and how to use them after downloading.

Ryan, I'm exactly the opposite. If I download an mp3, I burn a CD so I can listen in my car.

So I think it depends a lot on the target market. CD or mp3 format sounds like a great format for a split test.

If you can't do that, I'd think about going with the CD because that's the model you want to end up with. You could offer the CD as an upsell, with the mp3 as a back-up downsell...

    Thanks, guys and gals.
Its really more about higher end products, and multimedia, which I'll add in after a bit. But, yeah, offering both is the way i'll go.
