Yes. Automated queries in the sense of using softwares and web-based programs. I've heard and I've also personally experienced being slapped by Google doing so. Is it really true?

Could be true but honestly i don't think it is. (my opinion)

Otherwise all my competitors would control my rankings, Simple automate queries for my site and get me penalized so they can get the top spots.

Would be much tougher if we had such control.. at the same time we can never tell all that the big G takes into account when ranking/penalizing websites.

Yes, but they are all temporary.. as in they may last a few minutes and that's about it. You are not going to get banned. When using such tools such as SEO Quake, just exercise caution.

This issue troubles almost all SEO specialists since most of them are using softwares (they can't deny that fact). It is very time consuming for someone to type the keywords and then browse manually through the pages just to see what page his/her site is.

It's really no big deal since it goes with territory. The only people who are shocked are those who see this for the first time:

Thanks, Crew Chief. I'm just worried. Awhile ago, I sent automated queries to search for my site. It's currently on page 1, number 10. After I sent the query, booom, it just went down to page 2, number 17. I was really, really blown away. I've done SEo for almost 3 months for that site and the worst part is I'm competing for one of the most profitable keyword there is.

Thanks again for making me little bit relaxed. My head numbed when I saw the decline on rankings. I almost had my heart attack. LOL.

Jesus, that drop that you saw, I'll desribe by using the words of SEOer, Steve Aylor, "That was a anecdotal coincidence..." Meaning it just happened at the same time that you were running your query. It's no big deal.

The mistake that most IMers make at that point is to stop their OFF Page SEO campaign altogether to see if the non-activity helps. Don't fall for that reaction; keep on building!

Once you take over the top spot, you need to build enough BLs to discourage others from even thinking about making a push at your newly acquired perch.

And just so you know, many IMers use the (MS) Market Samurai Rank Tracker to quickly check the rankings of all of their keywords. After your keywords for that site are loaded into MS, you push one button and BAM, you can see where those keywords rank.

Crew Chief, I just sent you a warm THANKS.

Helpful tips, indeed. It's all about psychology.

You're right I've heard of some of IMers that once their site toppled all the competitors in their respective niche, the SEO just stopped their and all of a sudden they they will be shocked that the sales they've enjoyed was just short-lived.

The question now is when to decide to stop SEO? When can an SEOer say "Ive done enough and it's time for a rest"? Or is SEO really a non-stop on-going effort?

In all honesty, there are no hard line rules. Some people get to the top spot and do nothing else until their rankings start to slip. At that point, they add a few more backlinks and that's their business model.

My policy is this, when a person checks my keywords in Market Samurai, I want them to see ALL RED across the board. If they check my keywords in Traffic Travis, I want them to see, "Extremely Difficult"

If they check out my keywords in Spyfu, I want them to be utterly discouraged with even thinking about trying tackle my keyword phrases.

It's all about psychology, people are trained not to tackle keyword phrases when they see RED, Extremely Difficult, etc. I use that indoctrination to my advantage.

That said, oftentimes once I arrive at the top spot, I go into ninth degree overkill simply because I target highly competitive keyword phrases.

You, however may not need to go that far. As far as giving you a number, it's a play by ear type of thing. In other words, you may only need to add a couple hundred more PR 0 backlinks or a hundred or so PR 1 backlinks and you can remain in the top spot for the next two years or more. Conversely, you may need to add some PR 4 BLs or a ton of PR 0 to maintain that top position.

That's why I monitor my sites with Market Samurai, I know within a few clicks where all of my keyword phrases stand and from there I'll implement a plan to insure that I stay in the top slot without wavering of fluctuating. Once you get to that point, you are on AUTO-PILOT!
