Help!..Wordpress widget advice needed

I am seeking to create a dynamic website using a wordpress blog template.

I have flash to put in... am creating an animated game and need the site to store up to and not limited to 100 articles that will eventually turn into a hub as people contribute. It will be a business site used as a promotional marketing resource and wholesaler. I will have affiliates connected to the site.

I need to add an opt-in, my logo, squeeze page, video blogs, map locator, auto responder, social media widgets, shopping cart and anything else that would be helpful and lead to fulfilment. I want my theme to continue through all my content including social media platforms.

My first product is an MLM health product of which I will be doing long copy for the product and the business opportunity associated to it.

I am seeking advice on the best widgets and wordpress themes to use for my purposes. Am I better off building a website with html or can I do it all with Wordpress?

This is a very strange post. But that aside, it seems someone trying to implement this is trying to do too much with one blog and I don't see this being effective.

    Just my opinion.

      I agree with cwillabus.

However, go for a self hosted Wordpress blog. There are thousands of themes available but first you must decide on the style you want ie 1column,2colums or 3 column and then you personalize it with your own header and colors. It might be best you find a series of videos on installing Wordpress - google for them - and that will help you.

There are thousands of widgets & plugins for Wordpress covering a variety of requirements ie seo, e-commerce, Aweber form, monetzing your site, adding Videos etc. You won't do it all at once but the good thing with Wordpress you can get a site up quickly and continue to improve it under your totally happy with it.

        Ok...sorry I was not clear

I am asking for suggestions on the best widgets to use for my purposes. I have a hostgator account....started adding content but there are so many versions of widgets and a huge learning curve I was hoping to get a few pointers.

I currently have akismet, sociable, Google Maps embed, Visitor Maps and Who's Online, Dynamic Headers by Nicasio Design, AWeber Registration Integration, WordPress Importer, WP Admin Menu.

I am having an issue with getting my /content folder readable with this message-

It looks like wp-content/header-images/ is not writable or does not exist.

You will need to create this directory make this directory writable in order for the plugin to work.

Maybe This Article from WordPress will help.

I go to the link and it tells me I need to change my settings to 755. I do not know how to change it...can you help?

I am happy to pay for services once I know what to ask for.

I have flash...I have a logo..just struggling finding the right theme and creating the layout. Any help is appreciated. I am guessing that I need particular characteristics of the theme to be active or present.

Your best bet... shell out a 4 figure sum and have someone develop a site for you.

Wordpress can do it but relying on plugins for what your after is a bit ambitious.

    • Thanks Jason...not in my budget currently...I may have to do a temporary site and shift all the content over when I can afford it.

You have a huge laundry list of features you're looking for. I'd give Themeforest a look. You might find something that comes close.

    • taking a look now....I am also checking out 3 other platforms Sliding Door 1.8.7 by Wayne Connor, ReciPress 1.2 by Diamonds Designers, Atahualpa 3.4.9 by BytesForAll

Is there another custom platform that specializes in red designs?

I am thinking you are approaching this from the wrong end...
You are focusing too much on "gizmos" - instead of the structure of your content/site.

What I always recommend to people starting out with a new site (be it WP or anything else): sit down, take a piece of paper and draw a chart of how your site's pages (content) should be organized. It should be like an organizational chart of the content. It should also include (or have it separately drawn) the sales funnel where you want your visitors to go.

I was looking at your "list" and I noticed these items: opt-in, squeeze page, auto responder. Aren't they covering the same?! You need to sign up with an AR provider... they will give you the 'optin' form... and put it in your squeeze page. You do NOT need any kind of plugin or widget for that. Keep the plugins and gizmos to a minimum - unless you want a sluggish, slow blog!

And for the sake of clarity (since you seem to be confused by the WP terminlogy): WP uses themes that are built from several template files. And no, themes are not "platforms". Also, the "add-ons" are called plugins... and some of them could be widgets (that appear in the sidebar in most themes). All widgets are plugins but not all plugins are widgets.

When you know what is your site supposed to do and in which way... only THEN should you look for certain specific plugins that would add the desired feature or behaviour to your basic WP installation. Till then you don't need any widgets. Do not install plugins/widgets for the sake of having gizmos.

One last thing. Can you explain this to me:
I want my theme to continue through all my content including social media platforms.
Somehow it doesn't make sense to me...

    Good luck with your site!

  • I am currently using WordPress for my blog and have used several of the widgets contained therein. Like was said earlier in one of the posts you need to decide on your theme and then as you need add widgets to your site.

The only other thing I would suggest is that you have your own domain name as this will brand you and you will have more control over your site. Hope this is helpful to you.

  • Ok...I forget that I now need to speak in technical language.

    I am setting up a website/blog

Using a blog theme...I am requesting a good theme to use for my purposes. I have found a great one UNITE by Parellelus on themepress.

The purpose of my site is to promote physical products requiring visuals of each highlighted product.

I want to add a map so people can locate where to find stores with the products.

I will be adding a blog and article hub based specifically around high nutrition foods to generate traffic and add value to the site.

An animated game will be added at a later stage intended to create a viral buzz with.

I will be adding a sales pitch for an Australian MLM product/business based on native Australian foods as my first product.

Its ok...I think I will take on the theme I spoke of earlier and play around with it...organizing the content will be the hard part I am sure if I run into a problem I can elance or freelance a job to the techsperts
