To all you warriors out there, I find myself with a couple more questions about promoting a product. GoogleMcdougall has been very gracious in helping me focus and giving me some great advice.

Here is my silly question. I figured I would look on Clickbank and find a guitar learning product and promote it on my site. So I uploaded the picture of the product into a widget on the sidebar of wordpress. Pretty basic, but that got me thinking about two things.

1st Would I just add some random text below the picture to try and get people enticed to click on the picture? I have my affiliate link in there.

2nd the affiliate at CB has some tools to promote their product including a downloadable landing page that I need to extract the files from. No problem doing that but it seems to be some sort of PHP file that my computer doesn't want to open.

I guess I am wondering how to go about putting that on a page on my site, because for the life of me I can't figure it out.

And the theme I purchased won't allow me to pick different layouts for each page I don't think. I added the html code to a page and it looked all funky lol.

So yep, newbie question...

Ashamed I am.

(hides his face in the sand)

Thanks all

Andrew

You will need a php editor for the php files. I use editplus but there are other paid pieces of software like Dreamweaver. I would suggest learning and installing wordpress. Once you learn that you can then ad the php in the landing page as a new static page.

    Andrew,

The text below the image/pic should be call to action
duly hyperlinked to your affiliate link as you did with
the pic. Use keyword phrase. You can use redirect code
instead of the "raw" affiliate link

Simply write informative content on the page where
    you pic is uploaded.

    Hi....

Something basic and easy that I suggest is that go to the affiliate products affiliate page.Usually they have graphical images.Use them.

So you wont need any text or anything.

Awesome and thank you both for the answers. I should probably clarify a couple of things hehe. Mark 587905 that is exactly what I was looking for, editplus I think you said?

Don't know the first thing about Dreamweaver, but you said install wordpress but I already know and am fairly good at working with it. My stupid problem is I don't know how to actually put the downloaded landing page onto a wordpress static page.

And I really don't think I can change the layout of each individual page on this theme. Highly likely that I am wrong though. That seems to be a common theme with me.

wealthydon, thank you for answering my question that is exactly what I was looking for. A call to action. Going to go do that right now.

Really funny you mentioned a call to action duly hyperlinked to my affiliate link like the pic.

    My last name is Duley.

So it would be a Duley hyperlink with my affiliate lin.... never mind dumb joke LOL

thanks for putting up with my sillyness.

Sorry didn't see your post simaurile, I did go to the affiliate page and used one of their images that I thought looked the best.

I upload the image into a new post and then copy the code and add it to a sidebar widget. Works well. But I have no copy, or call to action which is what I am going to work on now.

My copy writing skill is about as good as a baby learning to walk....

Aduley, did you get it worked out?

Sometimes the affiliate program will provide assistance or support with answers to your questions regarding their banners and promotion of their product. Check out any resource information they provide or send them a "help" ticket to get answers to questions relating specifically to their product.

There are a lot of variables and a lot depends on the software you are using and your website theme. I wish you the best of luck . . . and welcome to the world of "affiliate marketing"!

There are so many ways to promote clickbank products. Whatever you do GO 100% FOR IT don't do 20% 1, 50% another and 30% another as it won't work for you and you may waste money/ and or time.

Thanks for this thread folks! I was actually wondering about putting images instead of the html link, and searching clickbank sort of led me to believe that affiliates couldn't do that. Definitely not right.

So I added one of the pics of the clickbank product on to a side bar widget and added a few lines of text with a couple of affiliate links on there.

Used my basic knowledge of HTML to change font size etc and center it.

I guess what I am getting at is that, does there happen to be anyone that does a good bit of selling CB products to throw out a few pointers about what someone would write underneath the picture to entice people to click on the links?

    Thanks Everyone

You can also edit the php file with MS Notepad.

Does the product creator have any affiliate tools? They may already have text adverts that you can use.

Kristy you had mentioned MS notepad, that wouldn't be the same things as wordpad would it?

If it is part of microsoft works lol I don't have that on my computer.

As far the text advertisements go, they give a list of key words which are good I guess, but I will have to go back and double check to see if they have good copy for me to nab.

woh actually before I go, I have a crazy idea here.

Can I create a pure HTML page in wordpad (call it whatever) and then ftp it to I guess the public_html folder of that domain in hostgator?

Then I could use that as a landing page for the product. LOL I don't even know if that made sense.

If anyone has the kindness to respond I would love that. I quite possibly could be way in left field with this one.

    Thanks

Microsoft Notepad is on Windows machines (XP, Vista, 7 - try Start, All Programs, Accessories, Notepad). You can edit php, css and html, just make sure the extension stays the same. Don't use Wordpad or Word as they add lots of unneeded extra code. You can ftp to Hostgator (but the public_html folder is your main folder, you need to open it first then look for the domain you want to put the file in).
