Hello, I will paypal you $50 if you can quickly (in the next hour) help me with a little wordpress problem. I have the 'next gen' image gallery installed, but it won't let my upload images as it gives the error "memory was exceeded". I tried to change the .htaccess file to increase the limit but it did not work. I am with hostgator. I am sure it is a quick fix, I just can't find it. Please PM me or answer here and if it easy I will do it, or give you access to do it. PM's and I will give my phone number to talk if necessary. If you know, I will paypal you the $50 straight away. |

Looks like this: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 52166656) (tried to allocate 2592 bytes) in The trouble is that I am trying to upload around 200 high quality pics that are already 2.5 mb each. I might just do a batch resize and try again? On the Gallery home it says: PHP Memory Limit : 800M PHP Max Upload Size : 64M PHP Max Post Size : 64M |

That message is displayed when the PHP limit has been exceeded. To fix this, you need to go into your php.ini file and set the upload_max_filesize to something that will accommodate the files you want to upload. DPI matters too! It's been a bit, but this was in my favs... (I know there's something else buggy with it too, cuz I distinctly remember this being a PITA) Can the memory usage limit be increased on shared hosting with a php.ini file? Due to resource limits on our Shared Hosting machines, it is not possible to allocate more than 20M of memory to PHP, although phpinfo() may report a higher number. You will be unable to increase the memory usage limit with a php.ini file. |

I'm guessing this is the command that you tried in .htaccess? php_value memory_limit 24M If not, you might try it. |

I am on a reseller hostgator account and don't have access to php.ini file. ....I don't think. I tried that php line in the .htacces but it just gave me an internal server error. So the plot thickens. I will PM you Mark. |

Michael, In your PHP.ini file. look for this code.... ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ; Resource Limits ; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; max_execution_time = 30 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds max_input_time = 60 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data memory_limit = 8M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (8MB) The part that says "memory_limit = 8M" - change it to 32M or 48M or 64M until it works. It's super easy! Mark |

You will not have access to you're php.ini file on a hostgator reseller account. See my post above.

Michael, Yes, that's what I mentioned in the PM. You should be batch resizing anyway, because 1) it speeds up your uploads dramaticaly, and 2) the resolution of the original files is probably far too high for a computer monitor to take advantage of anyways. Even after you resize the files, you may still have to bump up the max. memory like I mentioned, if you're uploading large numbers of files like I was. Hope this helped buddy! Mark |

Michael, Resellers account do not have a php.ini file that is accessed by ftp (unless specifically asked and hostgator agreed) ... The reason being is reseller account are designed to use specific resources and when too many resources are being used then it effects others hosted websites. Also for those that dont know having a php.ini file inside your directory and can be accessed by ftp is very insecure and you are leaving a possible backdoor open to hackers. Michael - What I would do is ask hostgator to increase if you need to .. the worst they can do is say no. Send in a support ticket.. James |

I've never used that script but if you can FTP the images you shouldn't get those errors. Usually those errors show up when you upload through your regular browser.

Before you give up, try custom php.ini and modifying the variable with .htaccess first. http://forums.hostgator.com/hostgato...ini-t7683.html But Hostgator to increase memory limit because they should support popular applications. Just some idea though. P.S. Image gallery is memory intensive. Share hosting may frown upon that. |
