Default Blogging newbie

Hello again,

I'm really interested in setting up a blog but can someone direct me to the best way to get that started. I could write my own articles and I know how to set up wordpress on my domain. What is the process.. how do you get the traffic?

EDIT:

Also would creating the blog on this site about whatever be beneficial for overall profits?

Hey DJ,

There are many blog sites you can use. I personally use www.blogger.com
It takes very little time to set up and you can ad your own banners and such to it. To get traffic to your blog site you can submit your url to directories, write articles and include the url in the resource box and many more. Hope i was of some help!

Cheers
Tom

1) Create posts 2-3 times a week minimum
2) Split posts to avoid dup content within WP hosted blog
3) Pick only one category filing per post...again to avoid dup content within blog
4) Submit feed to rss directories and aggregators
5) Occasionally social bookmark your more important, useful blog posts
6) Backlinks, activity/posts, backlinks, activity/posts, backlinks...

Hope this helps.

That's all great information. 1 other question

Is it already to have 1 giant blog with multiple categories or is it better to have multiple blogs that focus on one category?

It actually makes good sense to have various relevant categories on the topic you are blogging about within one blog...again...as long as they are relevant and supportive of the main topic.

Think of it as a natural development of site structure...this is one of the reasons Google seems to like most WP blogs that are setup and categorized well. Matt Cutts has a vid on google about how he digs good site structure, trees, etc...categories within a WP blog kind of handles this.

Don't be overly concerned about internal duplicate content on a WordPress blog. Google's algorithm has seen enough of them now to properly ignore category/tag/archive pages in favor of the actual post page. You can also use plugins like All-In-One SEO or Platinum SEO to automatically add a nofollow tag to these pages if this is a concern for you.

The main thing is to build links to your blog if you want traffic. If the anchor text for these links are targeted around mid-to-high traffic buying keywords you'll make money. If not, you won't get much search traffic. You can also build for social traffic using Digg, StumbleUpon and other social bookmarking sites. These won't bring in much in the way of buyers (aka ad clickers) but will bring you some traffic and potentially long term readers. Also you can comment on other blogs within and outside your particular niche to also get referral traffic.

As for going multi-niche, you can do this but it will be more difficult to get targeted buying traffic. The advantage is that you aren't locked into one topic so you can spread out and talk about more stuff that interests you.

Some great info. The best advice though is to start now. I researched for weeks because I wanted things to go perfectly. I realize now I'm still learning and had I launched my blog earlier I would have been further ahead than I am now.

DJ,

I answer every single one of your questions in my wso. I also created a free version for warriors. As to the topic of one or many niches, if you are an expert in a niche and your passion drives you to express it, go for one niche. If you are trying to make money, start out with a handful of niches and build them up before moving on. Hope this helps.

Hi DJ,

You can go to cpanel and install Wordpress using fantastico.

Then you can log in to wordpress using your username and password and start building your blog.

Remember to have valuable high quality content in your blog, drive traffic to your site and then monetise it.

Cheers,
John

Hello,

1. Choose a blogging site. I use Wordpress and recommend it.
2. Pick a theme and create your Wordpress site
3. That's it your are done! and start blogging.
4. You can catergorise your topics by tags and archive your posts
5. Advertise your product and depending on your topics you can use your blogsite for advertising with Google Adsense for example.

Optional items:- As these are not free! but well worth it! Your blog page is still powered by Wordpress.
1. If you want a professional look get yourself a domain name
2. Get your domain hosted
3. Point your wordpress blogpage to your domain

Now to drive traffic is another story. I have posted on my blogpage

CreativeCashBlog

on some techniques on how to drive traffic to your site and get ranked. The first week I hosted my page it rank just under 1 million.

The key here is that you need to be active and post frequently and submit posts to various bookmarking sites to speed up your rankings. I must admit I have been working on some other marketing techniques lately and haven't been posting new articles so my rankings dropped a bit.

Anyway good luck and drop me a note if you need further assistance.

Cheers

You must install some plugings such as: SEO pack, Update Pinger, Sitemap. Also a software called WebCeo is really good to get traffic. They offer free traing.
