My Simple Strategy - Opinions Wanted...

I'm trying to work out a simple strategy for building sites, and was hoping the more experienced warriors among you would tell me whether or not it will work:

- Identify a keyword with good traffic (i.e. 10k+ global monthly searches in adwords)

- Check google search results for page ranks in top 10. preferably ranks 4 or less. And no one obviously targeting the search term

- Buy the domain of the keyword, make a small page site about it, including "About us", "Contact Us" and small Amazon Store. 500+ words per page [ edited due to general advice on this thread, 25/10/2010]

- Write 10 articles about subject, and place them on ezinearticles, goarticles, squidoo and articlesblast.

- Ping (http://pingomatic.com/) [added on advice of sonamlama, updated 25/10/2010]

Wait....

Not bad. Just be sure to check and see if the search term has plenty of Adwords ads on the side and top of the SERPs to make sure that there is money to be made in that niche. Not all niches make money.

This is a valid strategy which I use all the time.

You need to be really good at keyword research. Use they KW's in your domain, content and articles.

    All the best

    Good strategy.

However, you should make sure that the keywords you are going after have relatively low competition (preferably less than 10,000) but if you have some experience in Keyword Research and feel you can beat out keywords that have competition within the 60,000+ range then I say go for it if the amount of searches are much higher.

I suggest you create a blog rather than a static website since it will be easier get your keywords indexed in the search engines and you can post written text, audio and video and have it online within minutes, unlike traditional static websites which can take hours to update and cost you each time - unless you're familiar with building or editing web sites.

    Wait....
Lastly, after submitting your articles to directories and you see they're approved DON'T WAIT! You should immediately ping them and social bookmark them to let the search engines know you've created "new content" for them. Doing this will increase your chances of getting ranked higher in the search engines.

    Hope this helps.

I like your strategy. I've been using similar for a couple of years now - it works! One thing to consider though, you could always sell high price products which have less traffic.

Take a look at bleacher seats on Amazon. The one I'm seeing is $22,255.95. Even with Amazon's commission, that's over $1000 per sale.

I bet the traffic for Bleacher related terms isn't anything to write home about, but even if you were to sell only one of those per year that's over $1000 in your pocket. Now imagine having 10 pages with different bleachers on them. Even if you only sell 1 per year, that's over $10,000 in your pocket from little work and not so much traffic

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I've updated the original post to keep it current.

    Is pingomatic good for pings?

Modified the website plan from 5 page, to slightly bigger bigger site, with about us page, contact us page, and amazon store.

I've used pingomatic to drive traffic to my articles, press releases, and various websites. It worked okay and got some good traffic to my articles and websites.

But at the end of the day as it says in their website heading, "pingomatic is a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated."

So, it will get the attention of Google, Yahoo, and other search engines but it won't get you a massive amount of traffic.

I think it would be best if you combine it with something like "Only wire" which is a bookmarking submission tool that is good for getting backlinks.

Let us know of your results.

    No.

Such a keyword is definitely too competitive to just throw some articles on there and hope it sticks. Personally, I would go after FAR less competitive keywords (like a PR of 1 or less).

But it's your call. You'll need to do an EXCELLENT job of optimizing your site for starters (title, links, h1 tags, bold text, related keywords, etc.)

There's an SEO plugin that can score how well your site is optimized for a keyword, and it does really well. But I forget the name.

And of course, backlinks. You will need to build up a consistent stream of high quality backlinks to rank highly on the kind of keyword you're targeting.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but SEO is tough. Frankly, there's really no such thing as an uncompetitive keyword these days.

If you go ahead with this plan, you'll probably be disappointed. But, I've been wrong before, so if you can spare the cash, by all means go ahead.

dont go for keywords, too much competition better to go for 2-4 keyword phrases. Use Googles External Keyword tool to choose ones with less competition
