Hi guys. Well I've gotten to the point where I'm ready to install an autoresponder to my website. I've been following the WF for a while and understand that the benefit of using a third party paid service over a free one is that the former has a much better chance of avoiding the spam filters. I've looked at both Aweber and Getresponse, and both look impressive. But which is the best?

Also can someone explain the implications of a double opt-in. Is this a legal requirement in the States (I'm from the UK, but I anticipate (Hope :-))that many of my future customers will be based in the USA.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jimmy,

Personally I use Aweber who I think are very good. Either one (Aweber or Getresponse) would be ok, they both have a large amount of users.

As for the legal implications, double opt-in isn't required, but recommended to avoid anyone putting someone elses address into your form.

However what is required by law is that your address is displayed at the bottom of every message you send out to your list.

Ive used both but prefer aweber which i use now. Its a double opt in list and they are very good at looking after you and their customer service is great.

If you dont use double no matter where you are based you at risk of being accused of spamming and you wouldn't have any peace of mind.

when i used get response i was often accused of spamming and since i used aweber i havent had one single complaint.

Also if someone gives an email that doesnt work aweber will remove it and it wont be stuck on your list. as a result its very rare that i have any bounced emails and have 100% delivery rate.

    kind regards

    Samantha

    Jimmy,

We have a search function on this forum. Just type in the subject - autoresponders - and you will see 270 pages on this subject! The debate about which AR is the best has volumes of threads within these walls.

If you want to limit your search to Aweber or Getresponse then simply type those names into the search function box, stand back and then be prepared to dig into the HUNDREDS of pages already here on this subject.

That may be true but in my mind the question has not been answered. Sure, there are hundreds of posts that say "use aweber" but nobody has given in-depth specific, feature-based reasons.

I, for one, welcome continued discussion of autoresponders.

        Steve,

This same question has been asked AND replied to IN DEPTH many many times! All if takes is a little searching.

Then I must concede your superior searching skills. I just had another try but came up empty-handed. Would you be so kind as to provide a reference to an in-depth, comprehensive feature description/comparison?

          Thanks,

I am a total newbie. I have started using aweber and have found it very easy to get round and operate. I got my account a couple of months ago but kept putting of using it but now it is up and running it is really quite straight forward.

There is no requirement to have a double opt in but it will avoid you being accused of spamming.

The reason most people use a third party service is that many hosting companies now restrict the number of emails you can send out on a hosted service to about 500 per hour.

This is fine if that is the size of your list but anything over and it becomes a real hassel.

Of course if you have a dedicated server then you should be ok but even these are clamping down.

The other thing you should consider is how will you be building your list?

Aweber / Get Response can be integrated with almost all membership scripts, and great for creating opt-in boxes on squeeze pages.

If you want to use any form of co-reg leads then aweber won't allow it, so moving to something like emailaces would be a better option.

The most important thing is that once you make a decision and start building you're pretty much stuck with that company, as you can't just export the list and take it another company.

If it's a membership site you're creating then I would 100% recommend aweber or any private label version of it.

Most of what I get comes with an aweber link, and I have that too. I must say that the live chat feature cuts down on frustration when you get stuck!

I'm not using either one right now, but the two I enjoyed the most in my experiences of using them are Aweber and also Response Magic.
