My First Flippa Listing

My Flippa listing should end today. My husband is taking care of the transfer and all that for me. That part is over my head at this point. He is going to walk me through it tonight. Anyways, I was wondering if there is anything I should know or any tips about closing the deal today? Thanks for any help!

Great job on your first flippa listing. Would be cool if you tell us all, how it went on later...

Just make sure that the buyer is reputable and NEVER transfer anything UNTIL the deal goes through. Good luck ...

You could use an escrow service for the domain name, and ask the buyer to send the money before you transfer the site. And, yes, tell us how is going! I saw many scam buyers on flippa!

Just watch out for trust ratings and keep the communication channels open, especially if there are any delays or hitches. Have everything prepared and ready to be transferred as soon as you've recieved payment as new buyers can often be impatient.

Thanks for the tips! I really appreciate it.

Payment was a concern of mine. I am accepting PayPal right now because the bid is on the low end. If I accept Escrow right now I think it would not be worth it. Isn't the fee like $25 or something?

I am selling an exact keyword domain match. The bid is not as high as I would like it, lol, so PayPal seems to be the only payment that wouldn't leave me with nothing, lol.

I don't know if I am allowed to post it on here, but it is on the ending soon front page right now. "exact match keyword domain". The website is just free layouts, plug ins, etc, nothing special. So I was trying to "sell" the domain name, not my web design skills, lol.

Just make sure you get payment first... if it is a low bid it's not worth escrow. I've sold hundreds of sites with no problems so don't worry too much about the buyer doing a chargeback, most people actually are honest believe it or not!

What I do is this, after payment I keep the domain name on my namesever to make sure they cannot run away with my website for free.

I do not release it until 45 days later unless they have paid via escrow.

I like this idea...Do you mention this in your listing or is this something you tell the buyer after the fact?

I mention it within my listing, many do not notice it, but I do not mention it if they do not and keep it. They do not need it unless they intent to flip the website themself.

Yes, I tell them and if they do not notice, I keep the domain and wait for them to ask for it, when they ask I explin and point them to the listing.

I would keep it for 45 days, as with paypal, you cannot open a dispute after this.

        Hey Owen,

You've managed to find some incredibly patient buyers...you need to tell me your secret

I've predominantly sold privately but I cant recall the last time a buyer wasn't practically at my front door when the domain transfer was even an 1 hour later than planned!

Ditto - plus I'm wondering how you even remember to do that 45 days later?

That would be too much for me to have to remember that, I think!

Holding onto the domain can be vital, it could mean you have less risk of losing your website to fraud.

I find it easy to hold onto. I just remind them of how brilliant the website is and sometimes offer free hosting if they are not too happy about me keeping the domain name (I then charge them for hosting on the second month.)

hey...congrats on that. You said it was mainly the domain, not much on the design. So I think you got a fair price .

I see you are pumped up. Keep it up.

      Thanks!

The website receives little traffic, and I made $10 worth of revenue ($5 adsense, $5 Amazon). The Wordpress theme was free, so were the plugins. So basically nothing "premium". I did install a lot of plugins and added some sites to ping.

The website receives little traffic, and had some backlinks. I made $10 worth of revenue ($5 adsense, $5 Amazon). The Wordpress theme was free, so were the plugins. So basically nothing "premium". I did install a lot of plugins and added some sites to ping.

My goal was to at least make some money off my listing. It cost $20 to list. $10+ for the original purchase of the domain. Since I made some revenue from the site, I am guessing the site profited me $30 over time.

Holding on to the domain for that long seems crazy to me. Here is what I do to keep things in balance. I do all payments through Paypal. Here is the trick, you simply send them all the site files on a cd and then get tracking on the order. Then when they try to do a chargeback on Paypal you provide the tracking number as proof to Paypal and they loose, you keep the money. If you read through all of Paypals TOS you will see this to be true. For some reason all they care about is the proof of sending physical product. This has worked for me in 2 auctions so far where the jerk tried to scam me out of my site.

I have done this before, I sent them a letter confirming their website purchase.

It did prove to work, as they did request their money back from paypal

Ya for me that is the winning ticket. I am sure there are many ways to have a successful transaction but I want the money as quick as possible and I do not want to worry about chargebacks and smudged reputation. Escrow takes to long for me plus fees are to high for low flips. I know of many site flippers that do the same as I have outlined with great success as well.

Yes Paypal try to be clever, but in all honesty, you could send a letter about anything and it would be proof.
