I have a job interview and need help!

Hi guys,

I have to give a 25 minute presentation for a job interview with an online marketing company. One of the things I need to discuss is how I would use online marketing tecniques to drive business forward for them.

I have a few ideas on this but need a few more.

What online marketing tecniques would YOU employ to help an online marketing company grow? Btw they specialise in PPC, Social, Advertising, etc.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

How much of a risk are you willing to take?

I'm thinking to challenge them. Think outside the box. Send an off-line postcard to their existing list to invite new customers to a webinar. Give them content, sell them at the end.

This has worked on me as the buyer.

Talk about how you're creating a system and not just the usual rubbish like facebook, seo. Discuss how you're gonna tie things together, talk about relationship marketing as a way to build loyalty and brand. I've been writing my dissertation on how higher education institutions do marketing and they don't have a clue. All they think is facebook twitter, but those alone don't mean jack. Talk about processes instead of the individual marketing technique.

Since they specialize in PPC, Social, Advertising, I would have to say:

    1. PPC:
    • Facebook - test two ad campaigns with different copy for each, targeting different demographics to bring CPC bids lower
    • Google Adwords - test ads in both Google's search and content network to see which one is more effective and cost efficient

    2. Social Media:
    • Fan Page - create a fan base to build brand loyalty and build email list (if that's their strategy)
    • Twitter - start tweeting about benefits of company to build trust with followers and brand awareness. This can also lead to sales and leads.
    • Youtube - Video marketing has grown to become so powerful and highly effective, since people relate and can understand your message a lot clearer through visual representations. Just remember to mention that they would have to optimize the videos descriptions, tags, etc. to get higher rankings in the search engines, because the videos won't promote itself.

    3. Traditional Advertising
    • Online Media Buys, PPV, Solo Ads, etc.
    • Radio Advertising (On-Air Media Buys)
ex. Clear Channel Radio, CBS, etc.

    Hope this helps.

Knock em' dead in your interview.

Let them know you get it that each client you'll service will be different...

someone selling widgets world-wide want's world-wide exposure... the mom and pop bakery wants people in their town and surrounding areas.

get into the concept of local search for those mom and pops. Agreed with Michael Nguyen, don't just gab about facebook.

Take a look at sites like groupon - discuss how those types of marketing could benefit clients. Maybe suggest the marketing firm launch their own if the conditions are right. You then groom the data that comes in from sign-ups and pass that along to the client (and once sanitized) to other clients in the form of market research.

It's (IMHO) showing that you're not another bot that will help you stand out.

Say what @Michael Nguyen is saying.
Most (Non-IM'ers) think marketing online is facebook, twitter and adwords. (They might even forget adwords)

Talk about having a complete strategy. Talk about "the others" who think internet is all about facebook.

For most businesses - It's not. Simple as that. Not if they want a long-term business anyways.

I didn't quite get the subject of your presentation though. Are you going to talk 25 mins about how YOU would use online marketing to get THEM more customers? (The company you are having an interview with)

Then the answer is, you wouldn't. I asked the same question to a guy I know who runs an internet marketing company, and he told me:

    1. Most email subscribers are on the fence, and convert very badly.
    2. He gets most of his clients through happy customers.
    3. Very few business owners use facebook.

What does that tell me? Well, keep your customers extremely happy at all times. Perhaps implement an affiliate/referral program, and let them know you want more customers.

@DogBite's webinar idea is also cool. OR seminar.

Other than that, SEO is too much work for very small returns, and loads of competiton.
Advertising in online financial news might work, IF the ad is a good one.

    I hope that helps,
