Is this statement about WP plug-ins accurate?

Hey Wise Warriors,
I read this statement in some free content for a launch that is going on right now. I will not mention the name of the product, ect. I am not an affiliate, or any of that. This particular statement is a small portion of the content, so its not like a big leak for them, either. Hope this is cool to post. The source seems irrelevant to the question I'm asking.

I am a huge Wordpress fan and I am hungry for more info, so check out this statement and let me know if you think its accurate.

So, what do you think, is this the statement below accurate in your experience? If there are specific plug-ins you do or don't recommend, please list them and say why.

Thanks-A-Mill,
-CP

"As an Internet Marketer or Search Engine Marketer, out of 11,500 plug-ins there are only about 14 "must have" plug-ins that you really need, such as:
Platinum SEO
Broken Link Checker
CB Ping Optimizer
Dagon Sitemap Generator
Google XML Sitemaps
No-follow Links
Simple Tags
....... etc
Note: You might wonder why I haven't included "All In One SEO" on the above list of plug-ins. Yes, it is extremely popular. But, it does not support auto-permalink re- directs as well as Platinum SEO. Also, Platinum SEO allows you to make specific posts no-follow and no index. That's important to better optimize your blog.
Please bear in mind... some plug-ins don't play well with each other. Also,
certain plug-ins, if not configured correctly, can actually hurt your search engine rankings. For example, if you use the default settings for several plug-ins (such as Simple Tags), they won't work very well. "

My take on this has always been: there is NO must-have plugin. Period.
(Akismet for spam but that comes with the package.)

Your blog and my blog - are different. Our goals might be completely different. Our target group might be different. How could we use the same "must-have" gizmos when we do different things?

As an analogy: how comes that we don't all drive the same car?

Good point, Istvan. So why do you like the vehicle you drive? Or in this case, are there any plug-ins you especially value for what they do for you, given the goals you have? If you'd be willing to share that info, I'd find it helpful. Ditto on Akismet.
      Thanks,

    The statement is not accurate.

The only "must have" plugins are the plugins that YOU must have.

Well, I like Akismet (and on some blogs Simple TrackBack Validation) because I don't want to deal with spam... or as little as possible.

Other than that I look for plugins that add or modify features of the vanilla WP - depending on what I want to do with hthat site.

Let me give you a non-IM example.
This last summer I had the 40 years reunion from the high school... back in my hometown in Transylvania. I volunteered to make a website for it and, of course, I used WP because for me it's like second nature

Now, I needed plugins/tweak that would do for me:
    - hide part of the content; to be seen only by registered users (i.e. classmates)
    - let the admin approve every registration (I am the admin)
    - create possibility that members/registered users create profiles with bio, a pic, plus 3 family pics; address and phone numbers, email etc.
    - make it @#$$%ing easy for practically HTML illiterate people
    - create and manage big photo albums/galleries
    - let users to pm each other...

I found plugins for all those tasks - just needed to create one or two special templates in the theme.

Will I use those plugins on other blogs? - No way! I don't need those features on other blogs.

For a marketing blog I may need a plugin that automates the management of ads = people pay for available spots, submit the text/banner link and the plugin displays/rotates them.

On a blog where I talk about books (I am an avid reader and book collector) I may want to use an Amazon related plugin or a "now reading" plugin (also sends you to Amazon, of course...) and stuff like that.

I hope you got the idea and HTH.

Yes, Istvan, it does help a lot to see how you think through exactly what functions you need before searching for plugins. Thanks for Responding,
