Are dead sites a sign of a bad niche?

I was doing some niche research and most of the blogs that I found within that niche looked abandoned. Many haven't had new posts or articles added for many months.

Does this mean that a niche, that was originally thought to be good, ended up being bad which caused the site owners jumped ship? Or does this actually present an good opportunity for someone whos going into that niche?

I guess it depends on niche and standard profitability research. What is PR of blogs you've found? Are they P1? Can you beat 'em and/or out-SEO them? Even though "abandoned", does not mean they are not profitable themselves. Might just be set-and-forget for their owners (still successful strategy). And can you make money from that niche by driving traffic to your own site?
I don't know that an "abandoned" site would indicate dead niche, one way or the other; pretty hard to make a blanket statement on that.

It has nothing at all to do with the success of the niche and EVERYTHING to do with the owner's failure to get the job done, maintain focus, quitting, or moving on the the next big thing.
