I created a forum a couple of days ago for my website.
what I want to know if this was a good choice in the long run???

    A forum can be valuable to many ssites, and a nightmare to many others. Just asking if it was a good idea to create a forum is a very broad and subjective question.

    If you can spark some good conversations and get dialogues going between forum members, you have content for your site without having to create everything yourself.

    If you have a forum that in 10 months time still has about 80% of its posts from you, and nothing new being added regularly, then it could turn potential visitors off.

    It's going to depend on the site and market that the site resides in.

    It can be if done right. There was a thread earlier this week about setting up new forums. Do a search and check it out. The info was helpful.
