Bulk Email shot question

I'm just getting into my first bulk email campaigns. What is the best method/software to use if I'm intending to do a 100k mail shot. I've got a great ISP that allows me to send 500 per hour per account but I need something better. I've been reading about Mailchimp and it sounds good but I thought I'd ask here for advice from experienced professionals.

Thanks in advance

Daniel

Where did you buy the email list from? Are they double optin?

If not - you're going to just be another spammer. You'll get shut down. And could get into trouble.

Yes, if you attempt this the result will very likely be getting shut down from the spam complaints. ISP's talk a good game sometimes just to get your money. Then you mail out, they get bombarded by complaints, they shut you down, and you're out the investment. They know this going in. Now you do, too. It's tempting to run the numbers with a list of 100K or whatever, but no matter how you rationalize it, if they didn't sign up to get your info and you didn't get them to confirm it, spam complaints are in your future. Lots of them.

So you guys are saying this is not the way to go? Period? I've got my lists from 2 sources - both free. One of the lists is from Craig's List and the other from Gumtree. A friend used some wizarding software that he's promised to explain to me. I've done some testing and the list works.

Are you guys saying my site could be banned or just my email?

Thank you for being so quick :-)

If he's just harvested emails from CL and gumtree then yes you're spamming them. The only way it's not is if you are responding to something they've posted a request for. However I doubt that's the case with 100,000.
Remember in most western countries spamming means you could lose your internet provider, get blacklisted making it hard to get another provider, get a large fine or even face jail time if you keep spamming.

OK I'm getting the picture. I think I'm going to take a step back from the edge and play it safe. I think I was snake charmed by the thought of such a large mail out. I've only ever done a few hundred before and I think I got caught up in the moment a bit. Thank you all for the help. Perhaps my children should thank you as well lol :-)

If you bought the lists, no way you will be able to use any good email platform, like icontact, mailchimp, aweber, constant contact, etc. You need to build the list yourself, not buy the email addresses.

Coming from someone who has "bought" emails before (back in the day when CAN SPAM wasn't around) it just doesn't work... atleast not at the consumer level. Here's what you will find:

    1. Most of the addresses will simply not work, or are junk/fake.
    2. 99% will go into the spam/junk folder of the person.
    3. 1% will go to the inbox. of that 1%, maybe .05% will even open the message.

Very few will click your offer. They don't know who you are, and they hate junk/mail spam.

I have a question myself, if I may...

I've harvested some emails myself using atomic email extractor but i got them all from a list of sites i gathered myself knowing that those respective sites would be ones interested in my companys services. So is that considered spamming?

not to mention my list is only a few hundred contacts that regardless of bulk emailing I would have been going through 1 by one contacting anyways...

    thanks

Knowing? You're assuming, even then you'll have problems. There is no shortcut here. Get some traffic to your pages, opt them in with a double opt-in process, and market to them. Anything else is spam. --Mike
