I joined HubPages a couple weeks ago and I already have about 5 hubs. But I was wondering....in your opinion....which is better, Squidoo or HubPages?
#hubpages #squidoo

Both are good in different ways. So, use two of them if you can. If you insist that I must choose one, maybe at gunpoint, I will choose Squidoo.

Why? I knew about it before I knew about hubpages.

I have limited experience with both, but from what I've seen, Hubpages FAR eclipses Squidoo in terms of page views. This is what I've experienced when posting essentially the same article to each. I may create some more Hubpages, but I don't plan to bother with Squidoo anymore.

Thank you all for your input. I would like some more feedback if possible. I have heard Squidoo lenses aren't doing as well as they used to, so I just wondered if I should even bother with it. I have seen some benefit from HubPages already so maybe I'll just stick to them.

What kind of benefit have you seen from hubpages, i had problems witg my first hub as they said i was over promoting myself and took me a while to sort that out

Do you benefit form traffic or backlinks??

      thanks

I personally LOVE Squidoo. I get lots of traffic.. aka lenses with 1-2000 views per week and I make $ which I never did with Hubpages. Squidoo also allows you to use lots of affiliate links so a lens might make $20 in a month via Squidoo modules and then double or triple that via my own affiliate links. Plus each lens links to a web site or blog I am promoting. Nicer community IMO and they are always improving what they offer. Hands down the winner IMO.

I benefit from the traffic right now as my newest site is just a week old.

Also here's a tip. When they decline your sites and want you to edit it. Make the edits and then copy and paste the hub into a NEW hub and delete the old one. That way your new up is up immediately and you don't have to wait for them to approve it. I've done that twice now.

I use them both for backlinking. Though if you can find a good keyword and put some backlinks back to your squidoo or hubpages, you could get good traffic from them.

I find that once you can bypass the Hubpages standards of quality etc in terms of over promotional hub's etc you can get some nice traffic flow & targeted traffic at that.

I have had little luck with Squidoo and do prefer Hubpages.

This is just my opinion, but it seems like Squidoo has gone downhill. I hardly ever see Squidoo pages in searches anymore but I see hubpages quite often.

Oh, it is hard to tell which one is really good than the other because the two has their own unique features. In Squidoo you can see how far your lenses reached and also it gives high traffic to your site. Hubpages on the other hand allows you to see how many visits made to your hubs and at the same time, it gives you challenge as you can see your score varying from time to time.

The only drawback of Hubpages is that we need to constantly update our pages. If we don't, our score will decrease thus resulting in less viewers.

Both platforms are inherently designed to incentivize users to provide frequently updated content. Look at Squidoo....their internal lensrank system is designed specifically to do that: If you don't continually update your lens, your lens will slip in their lensrank system. It's arguable as to whether or not this REALLY has value, though...unless you are concerned with making the tiered payment payout, I wouldn't really concern myself with trying to rank high in their lensrank system....

Some lenses, by their very nature and topic, also don't lend to being continually updated, like a blog. Before picking a topic, it is important that you pick a topic that doesn't really just STOP, but can be continually updated with new content for awhile.

Likewise, HubPages has their hubscore/authorscore set up to encourage and incentivize updated content. They do so with the automatic conversion of Do-Follow links, to No-follow links, if your HubScore falls below, I believe, 75....if you are inactive or don't update your hubs, those hubs will slip in rating and all your links will be automatically converted.

Meant for good, these things bring about their own unique criticisms of both platforms....

Is there any one here who makes thousands a month from either platform? Squidoo? HubPages?

    I use both.

Personally, I find it easier to get Hub pages to rank. I get a lot more "external" traffic to my Hubs than my lenses.

That being said, I do get some traffic to my sites from Squidoo. It's all good.

I know your comment was meant in jest, however, fundamental research of platform functionality and TOS, would reveal the significant differences between each platform....

For starters, there is a huge difference between how each platform is monetized, and how writers are incentivized. Where HubPages gives writers a 60% revenue share, Squidoo operates under a more tiered model. Things can get a bit complicated with Squidoo, so I would recommend researching it....there is a tiered lensrank monetary incentive, for different tiers, based on lensrank....

Apologies again, I got distracted before posting my more serious response.....

I've recently noticed a competitor who has very quickly increased a site from PR0 to PR2, and all he has are a few backlinks from Squidoo lenses. I've not finished my analysis, but his site looks very basic (carp in fact).

I'm still learning the ropes, but I've added some backlinks from these lenses to see what effect this has on my site.

For me personally, hubpages are above squidoo. They have better connection to the other hubbers, which is huge advantage in promoting your articles. I'm not saying you should neglect squidoo, but if I'd have to choose, it would be hubpages,

    Both are good.

I prefer Squidoo because there are a lot more third-party tools available for it. I also think it has a richer platform, and is more flexible for those that like to use their own HTML, CSS and affiliate links.

Before I think you could have made an argument that hub pages is as good as squidoo (not better though) - but after the panda update with google (algorithm change) I think squidoo pretty much clearly wins. I would def stick with squidoo.

Squidoo is a little tacky looking, sometimes ads have even gotten in the way as I tried to read part of an article on there.

But squidoo is cuter, and very clown like.

Hubpages is better, but you might be better off making your own Joomla site and putting the content there after the Panda update. My hubpages traffic dropped about 40% and I had real good, original, long, and high quality articles up there.
