For those of you involved with local companies as part of your business, Google has just announced that they are revamping the way they will show information about local businesses in their search results.

Google Inc. said it will revamp of the way its search engine displays information about local businesses, as the Internet company seeks a greater share of advertising dollars in that growing market.

Google's Place Search, which is expected to roll out globally by Thursday, gives people more information about local business such as restaurants and dry cleaners directly on the first results page, including a photo, review ratings and a snippet of a review from sites such as CitySearch.com or Yelp.com, as well as links to those review sites.

I use Google Place pages to get ranked on a multitude of keywords that have nothing to do with the location i am creating a page for... I know some will not approve of this tactic but its a great way of stealing the first spot on the first page of the search results.
