Seasonal Marketing : Do you do it and what's your appraoch?

Hello warriors,

I'm just wondering how many of you guys gear up to do seasonal and occassions affiliate marketing, like Xmas, Mother's day etc and what lead in time you take.

I've had moderate success with long tail keywords that I started to work on within a month of the occasion but the big suprise for me was keyword specific Squidoo lenses I create a year ago and just forgot about. These are really starting to gain momentum.

Just wondering what strategy other people take

Tracey

    This is a great question.
There has been some discussion here regarding lead in times.
For my Christmas 2010 promotions I started in early september. I think that you need be at least 2 months ahead of the occasion you are trying to promote. I have also posted pages for products that have not yet been released knowing that at least some of them will pick up good traffic because they were some of the first pages posted on the internet about the product.

I am interested to know what other warriors lead times are

Christmas is the only seasonal market I target - although I might consider Halloween costumes etc for next year. I started the earliest of my Christmas 2010 sites back in February this year and made a few more just after Easter. July and August is the latest I would start a Christmas site if I was hoping to get it ranking well.

I basically just put more of a focus on selling cookbooks, bread makers, toaster ovens and exotic gifts around the Christmas season. These are things people buy all year round but seem more inclined to purchase around the holidays. I sell exotic gifts year round that the company can’t really keep in stock around Christmas.

I also sell weight loss products and exercise equipment and gear during and after the holiday season as I know people are going to feel as though they need it.

When I was researching my Xmas Riches List 2010 I was amazed at how huge the kitchen appliances market was at Christmas. This is something I'm focusing on now.

It seems a minimum lead in time would be around the 4-6 month mark?

One of my niches (the quit smoking niche) I typically hit hard around the new years, as a lot of people are trying to quit smoking as their new years resolution.

I give most of my seasonal sites a refresher about 2.5 months out. This includes new content, new backlinking building exercises and new sitemaps at this time.
