Dead. Death. Died. RIP. What IS dead in IM?

I swear if I hear that something in IM is dead again I'm going to murder somebody.

Okay, not really. But seriously, there have been too many posts here stating that "This is dead" or "That has died". But these are methods that are tried and tested and still are true.

But I wanna ask my fellow warriors - what IS actually dead in IM? I mean methods that worked in the past but WILL NOT work again under any circumstances. Here are a few things I can think of off the top of my head:

1. Cookie stuffing
2. Adsense Arbitrage
3. Keyword stuffing
4. Spamming

Now these aforementioned methods just WILL NOT WORK because something will happen if you try them. A number of bad things.

Anyone wanna chip in and disclose what IS really dead in IM?

I am scared to mention the dead word around you my friend.

Haha, it was meant to be sarcasm and somewhat of a pun. Funny I should post this thread because it's close to Halloween here in the states.

You can build a man a fire and keep him warm for a day...

Or you can set him on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life...

            Does this count?

    1. Cookie stuffing - still alive and well
    2. Adsense Arbitrage - has most likely died off..
    3. Keyword stuffing - for google/bing this isn't a big deal anymore..indexes have caught on and LSI plays a big role in rank configurations
    4. Spamming - Context is needed here. Spamming via email? I'm still getting them in my inbox. So if they're still being sent, it's gotta be working on someone? Link spamming is still prominent -xrumer is still the choice of many.

Posting an article to ezinearticles and just letting it sit there and expect to get a ton of traffic. Very rarely going to happen...

On another note, I think the internet is dead. Let's just all get offline now.

Spamming is far from dead, people do it all the time. Spam will always exist unfortunately, just in different and smarter forms; it's getting to the point where specfic spam is looking like legit stuff.

Oh my word, I actually (fondly!) remember mine! Took 7 days to download a simple text report, but hey -- at least I COULD download it. ;-)

And the sound of the modem connecting up (dial-up) to ancient AOL using Windows 3.1.

I'm still mad at them for coming out with a newer version of Windows (kidding -- I finally got past it -- I think).

Remember when AOL used to distribute their software on floppy disks instead of CD ROMs?

I wish I still had one of those floppy disks, they go for a mint on eBay for antique collectors.

Wow, that's quite a blast from the past. I remember when they used to have those free CDs displayed prominently at Wal Mart and every electronics store. I'm sure their days are numbered, as I don't think the dial-up market is going to pick up anytime soon! LOL

AOL sent me one at least several times a month. I hung them on the fir tree outside as Christmas decorations.

Well, I spotted a couple of things right off the bat here.

    1) The "weight loss thing" is far from dead.

    2) Guess what? "Webrings" are alive and well too! Just not as prominent as they used to be.

Spamming is not dead. IMO is far from being dead.

Spam still exists and many spammers make six or seven figure incomes every year. We would hope for spamming to be dead but in reality it's far from it

At least two of those methods still work. This thread topic is dead.

And on a serious note, when somebody proclaims that XYZ is dead, it's not dead. They were just a complete failure trying to make it work.

    2. Adsense Arbitrage - I know one guy making 4-5K a month with that. He is the only person I know that is. I wouldn't attempt it. He is just that good at Adwords. So 'mortally wounded', maybe? But seems to be still using a straw to communicate.

Simple truth is - the reason the word "death" is used is attempt to call attention to the person who is posting or blogging.

Which is why I usually ignore such threads - but this one had ALL the words in it - unique

REALITY: NOTHING is dead in IM.

PERCEPTION: Marketers say things are dead in Internet Marketing to give their offering a unique position in the market and increase its perceived value as a consequence.

All the strategies that used to work still work. The question is are you still working them correctly? Paradigms change, just like in any business, and you have to flow with the change.
