Hi,

My hoster kicked me because of too much traffic

Now I'm searching for a new one. I think Hostgator is a good choice but I don't know if they are ok with high traffic?

    How much traffic is it?

Hostgator has unlimited bandwidth, but if you use a lot of resources, you'll get suspended from any host including HG.

Well if you are using too much off the shared server then you will probably get kicked by any webhost.

Why don't you get a dedicated server?

        They are too expensive.

What type of site are you running? How many visitors?
You may have outgrown shared hosting.

I am surprised that your host did not give to the opportunity to upgrade to a bigger package, a reseller account, VPS or a dedicated server. Perhaps you were 'doing things' that that they did not like.

I use a number of hosts, one of them Hostgator (that you mention) and they allow a client to upgrade their hosting package, as business and traffic develops.

As for a dedicated server, for goodness sake don't opt for that unless you know what you are doing (that is a knowledge of server management and security, or you'll have to pay extra for those essential services) and are sure that you really need and can afford to pay for that option.

My advice would be: contact your preferred host or host, explain to them exactly what you require from their hosting service and proceed from there. Keep all of the emails or help desk questions and answers on file for future reference.

Just my thoughts and best of luck,

      Jeff.

Hostgator has worked pretty well for me, and I've never had any traffic issues with them. Can you quantify the amount of traffic your websites were getting on your old host?

I love HostGator, I hosted a site for my projects I did for school after having bad experiences with JustHost. HostGator is a nice place although I have never used it as a way for money and I don't have any hosting or domains at the moment.

I've been using Hostgator for more than 5 years now and love 'em. I'm just using the basic package and so far my traffic is not high. Hopefully it goes up soon!

If VPS doesn't work, go for the cloud.

I wouldn't recommend Hostgator, I've heard of too many problems from them through many friends.

I would recommend IPower. But perhaps Rackspace would be better...

I have two dedicated boxes at LiquidWeb and a Reseller VPS at Hostgator.

My preference is LW because I get full control over the box, no limitations AND they still give me great support. I have been with them for over 6 years.

I haven't had any big issues with the VPS at HG BUT the default setup is restrictive and aome scripts just don't work right. HG has always been pretty good about working with me but I don't like being forced to contact support for something as simple as enabling the default catch-all email address. Just my thing!

If you're getting enough traffic for a hosting company to shut you down I would think you'd be making more than enough for a low end dedicated. At LW that's around $200 a month and you can host as many sites as you want.

    Someone mentioned you have to pay for server management. I thought those days were gone but I guess there could still be some out there. All I can say on that point is LW doesn't do that. LW does have shared services but I haven't used them. The only negative I have found with LW is when you have a situation that's outside the box they sometimes bounce the support ticket around to so many techs it's hard to get it resolved in a timely manner. When that happens I just pick up the phone and start nagging them in realtime. :-}

So, my bottom line is LiquidWeb is #1 and Hostgator is #2.

    Hope this helps.

Host gator is NOT a high volume host.

They set low limits on concurrent connections and may shut you down if you overuse their resources on economy services.

Host gator is more for companies with low volume or who are just starting out.

Additionally they have had serious security breaches with their shared hosting.

Most people don't do enough volume or ask the hard questions to uncover the limitations of HG. Its great for a quick site or if you are just getting started but not for mature high traffic businesses or those with increasing needs.

It sounds to me like you should be looking for a dedicated server at this time. I recommend you consider SoftLayer® Technologies - Infrastructure as a Service including Dedicated, Virtualized, and Cloud Hosting

Have a few business accounts with HG. Find them ok! Support is usually fine. Also have some jumpline accounts. Once again, ok! Neither hosts are used for very high volume.

Have tried many other hosts and have had problems with most that caused me to move on. Have been with HG and jumpline[used to be surfspeedy ] for a few years.

In last year always use HG for new client sites as I find them reliable, and the instant chat support tends to be good.

Your problems could stem from a combination of high traffic, no caching and poor software (cms, or blog etc..) configuration, rather than just your high taffic.

Have you tried tweaking your software setup and implementing a proper caching mechanism? This could help keep your resource usage down!

If none of these work or apply to you, then I agree that if you have really high volume then a dedicated server would be preferred.

I am running about 30 sites through HG baby plan and I love their online chat support - they have always been really helpful and it is so great not having to submit support tickets. I didn't know they had an issue with using too many resources so it might be time to open a second account with them so as not to overload the first one, but they are definitely good value for money in my book

Hostgator are great I've been using them a number of years with a reseller account. For some time I have been having high traffic and high resource issues with some of my wordpress sites, support have been really helpful and patient.

Next week I am upgrading to VPS with them because the amount of sites that I have are growing and I need to upgrade, they will move everything for me. Wouldn't consider using another host now after several previous bad ones.
