Youtube offering PPC ads. Now Number 2 Search Engine Also!

Not sure if anyone posted this, but it appears Youtube is now selling search based ads like Google. Interesting article here and I'm sure this will have a big affect on all us:

At its headquarters here Wednesday, YouTube officially unveiled its latest effort: an auction-based advertising system, similar to the one Google pioneered, that promotes sponsored video clips alongside regular search-engine results on the website.

The move tries to take advantage of YouTube's new status as the No. 2 Web search provider. It recently passed Yahoo and now trails only its corporate parent, Google, in terms of searches conducted.

I guess we can forget about yahoo catching up to Google since Youtube has passed them by now.

Research firm EMarketer Inc. estimates that U.S. advertisers will spend $5.8 billion on video ads in 2013, up from $505 million this year. Investment bank Piper Jaffray found that the number of videos with ads on YouTube is already increasing and that YouTube appears to be suffering less from the economy-related ad slowdown than others. Investment bank Collins Stewart predicts YouTube's revenue will double next year to about $400 million.

"If you can engage people with sight, sound and motion, they are more likely to remember your message," said Shishir Mehrotra, YouTube's director of advertising.

Some analysts questioned why it took YouTube so long to try the formula that made Google so profitable. Liu said YouTube took care and time in developing a search product geared to YouTube users, who are more interested in browsing than searching.

It's amazing to think that it was only launched in 2005 - it seems to have been with us forever...

It is a good service though - I do enjoy browsing finding obscure musical entries

I have a product that I am promoting via Adwords. I would like to give sponsored videos on YouTube a shot. I have no clue how to make a video.

Who is going to specialize in making videos for merchants and affilaites that "engage people with sight, sound and motion," so that "they are more likely to remember your message"?

I'll pay for such a video that I can use to promote my product on YouTube sponsored videos.

The traffic coming from youtube will not be anything like that of adwords. A static sales page will not hold the attention of the avgerage youtube visitor lol

Yes it will. First of all when they click on your ad they see your youtube video. THEN they go to your webpage IF they want. And depending on how good your video was they WILL stay. AND buy

everyone is going crazy about this...but just think a little....this is only good for popular stuff on youtube....lets say you are in the make money niche...and you make a video about article writing...how many people do you think that are searching for ”how to write articles” or something like this?

MySpace also been offering PPC for over a month now - all the Social sites are moving towards it.

And MySpace converts better than Facebook - more commercialized - and great for making money with it.

No data on YouTube PPC yet, but sounds promising.

I also read this article in the Los Angeles Times. The articles spoke mostly about ways they can make more money from Youtube. So now to get your video in the top spots you're going to have to did higher than your closest competitor to get the number one advertising position. It worked for Google and it should work for YouTube also. The pay per click bidding model is a very effective way in making money. I'm sure those guys will be making good money with YouTube also.

I too have just started a YouTube advertising campaign. You get stats just like with adwords and it's all charged on your adwords account. My first bid is just .001. That's right. One penny.

I'll keep you informed as to how it's working.

AdWords is always better, but MySpace PPC is cheaper and no quality score BS to worry about - and with the right offers it does well.

Hi Lakshay

I was thinking, perhaps what Google means is that the videos will only show in the US? I don't know for sure as it isn't real clear. They just say "YouTube Sponsored Videos is currently only available in the United States". Does that mean shown in US or available to only US marketers like the yahoo publisher ads are?

Maybe someone else can answer this.

When you set your Adwords campaign to work on other Search Networks, your ads will appear on relevant pages on YouTube.

For example - bid on a keyword Warrior Forum, and any page on YouTube that has Warrior Forum on it will have your ad, if your Quality Score is good enough.
