Page loads vs. unique visitors

Hi everyone,

What is the difference between page loads and unique visitors?

In case you want to know, I am using statcounter.com.

When calculating sales and conversions, which one should I use?

This is something I am not understanding so much even though I have been online for a while now and should know this.

Thanks,

Tal

A unique visitor is just what it sounds like - a unique visitor coming to your site. Page loads are the actual pages that are loaded by all the people visiting your site.

For example, if you have 5 unique visitors and they each visit 3 pages on your site, you'll have 15 page loads.

Here are the explanations from Statcounter.com themselves

    Unique Visitor
    Page Load

Generally you'll want to use unique visitors for conversion data. You want to know how many of the people who visit your site actually convert into a sale, click, optin or whatever you're tracking.

If you want to get deeper into the testing and tracking, you could start to track their path through your site. ie. What page(s) have the best conversion, where your visitors go when they hit your site, etc. This takes more work though, and can be more complicated to track.

This is what I was thinking.

So I should be looking at PAGE VIEWS to calculate conversions.

    Thanks man,

You should be using Unique Visitors to calculate conversions...

If I visit your site, I am one Unique Visitor...

If I look at 15 pages on your website, that will be seen as 15 Page Loads...
