Best way to build a list?

I have a wordpress review site that is making some pretty good money on a daily basis now.

I want to start collecting leads and hitting these people up with a newsletter.

What is the best way, having a optin thingy in the sidebar, having a pop up or something entirely different maybe?

THis is in the music niche.

Also what plugins/programs do you use for these.

The BEST way is to have both... Make a nice opt-in box at the top of the sidebar and have a pop-up box...You'll get more subscribers all around...That's what I have on my blog...And build a squeeze page also to get more opt-ins...You want to capture as much emails as possible.

Pop-up with a giveaway after opt-in, and a more low key opt-in on the sidebar of your blog.

I use Aweber. When you create your web form, you have the option to make it "hover over" or "in line". I believe that is the verbiage they use. Hover over would be the pop-up, and in line would just be on the page as a normal opt-in form.

You can also name the webforms, so you know where the subscribers are coming from and track the results of your marketing.

Opt in form on your blog with high perceived relevant offer in the top right hand corner with benefit driven headline.

Make a specific squeeze page and drive traffic to it to build your list faster.

If you're looking for a decent plugin in WordPress which can help you build your list even faster. If you can afford $67 by reinvesting the money you're making, I'd advise you to get Michael Dunlop's Popup Domination 2 plugin.

It basically displays a lightbox popup to your blog readers.

You can use e-junkie to add them at the same time you deliver the download link.

Note that these people will be BUYERS. Ahh, some of my favorite people.

      I'm just saying.

I am currently using Super Popup and Email Autoresponder for my site. You can find those plugins in wordpress plugin site.

The good thing about super popup is that you can specify which page you want or don't want the popup to appear.

For Email Autoresponder, they come very close with the paid version (aweber etc) but woot, they are FREE

You can use both a form on the right and a pop up exit window, and Aweber can do both

I would try both and test them - if people are coming to your site to buy they may not necessarily want a popup that forces them to give over details immediately - so if that the case I would then stick with the sidebar option and give them something for subscribing.

So many choices - so many decisions. Test - that is the only way you will know what will work best for your site.

Both a sidebar and lightbox popup. Don't make your opt in box too wordy otherwise it will turn people off and they will click away. Make what they are signing up for very relevant and interesting. I'm sure there are plugins that make it easier but I've thrown the autoresponder code right in the header and it worked just fine on several Wordpress blogs.
