Amazon.com / .co.uk ??? new UK based IMer

Hi warriors, I need your help again!

I am based in the UK and have been setting up my first 'Amazon website'.
I chose to sign up to the US Amazon Affiliate program and have a .com website to enter the US market place.

Now a colleague / mentor has a website on the first page of Google in the US but when I search for his keywords on Google.com I do not see his website.

Q.Assuming I am an expert in SEO, Traffic etc and can get my website to page 1 of Google will I be wasting my time as it won't be seen in the US due to my geographical location?

Q.Are there any UK based Amazon affiliates making money from Amazon US?

Frustrated, please help.

You shouldn't have a problem ranking for google.com if that is what your aim is and it will get seen in the USA - it doesn't matter where you are from.

I have websites for Amazon UK and USA and rank accordingly. A good way to let google know where you are targetting is to use webmaster tools and let them know in there. There is a setting to say you are targetting US/UK. This is good if you don't have a domain extension that makes it obvious i.e. I have a few .orgs that are targetting uk and when I put in the webmaster tools they were targetting UK, this alone changed my ranking in my favour.

  • There's a strategy a lot of people forget, and that's to target both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

Create two sites, one a .com linked to Amazon.com and one a co.uk linked to Amazon.co.uk.

You can use a lot of overlap content between them and work more efficiently due to the economy of scales. A lot of affiliate marketing is about playing the numbers, so havng multiple sites can give you an edge.

You click on your site..then go to site configuration then settings and it should be right there in front of you.

I'm with both and have only made money through amazon.com -- got my first cheque last month :-)

What i've found is that it doesn't matter where you're based...what matters (in terms of organic seo) is what country your hosting is based.

    for example...

I'm from London and have about 15 sites - all .com, .net or .org - and have hosting with Hostgator (based in the USA) and **without exception** all of my sites perform better in the USA.

    Good luck mate
