Is it bad to host multiple sites under one BlueHost account?

Not sure if there are any disadvantages having multiple domains hosted under a single account in BlueHost since your file path is always your main domain name. Anybody familiar with hosting multiple sites on BlueHost?

I'm hosting multiple sites under one BlueHost account, cos it is easier to manage and it's cheaper. But i'm focusing on one site now.

No it is fine, no problem what so ever, although if you have reseller accounts on your profile, I would recommend a VPS or a dedicated server to help with the load and speed.

Only if you're trying to build a network of sites that link to each other. In that case they will all me on the same range of IP numbers and G can tell they are closely related (in an ownership sense) so the links from one to another may be devalued.

Eventually you may want to have several hosting accounts, or buy hosting which allows you to have IPs on several different Class C ranges, so that your sites look unrelated.

it's fine. I'm hosting more than 30 domains in my bluehost and it's still okay. But I won't do that if I were to restart again. Bluehost isn't a very good host.

May I ask what you do not like about Bluehost? Their customer service has been fantastic so far.

I know it's about BLUEhost, but I have to say why I hate JUSThost... their customer service. Yes, I do host several sites with them under one account. No problem with that. But I absolutely hate getting on chat with them. Maybe it's that way with most all hosting providers.

I would LOVE to post some of the transcripts of conversations I've had with them. Here's a typical chat (paraphrased for your reading pleasure) I've had. No joke. It's happened more than once and I am NOT exaggerating...

(Let's just say the guy's name is "Jake")

Jake: Welcome to live chat support. How may I help you?

Me: Yes, hello. I added three domains today (that I purchased some time back) and I need to verify that the nameservers are pointing here [I give him the three domain names]

Jake: Please give me a moment to go through your issue.

          waiting...

          waiting...

          waiting...

Jake: Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Jake: Can you please let me know what exactly you want to do, so that i can assist you.

Me: (repeating myself) I added three domains today (that I purchased some time back) and I need to verify that the nameservers are pointing here.

Jake: Please allow me some time to check

          waiting...

          waiting...

Jake: Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Jake: I have checked the domain xyz.com and found that it is pointing towards our nameservers.

Me: What about the other two?

          waiting...

          waiting...

(nothing about that, but then the next few questions I had dealt with Wordpress), then:

Jake: And you have not uploaded any web files on the additional domains. [where that question came from I have no idea]

Me: How do I get Wordpress to work with my other domains?

Jake: Please upload the web files, so that you website will be working fine.

Me: What? Do I install Wordpress into the other domain folders? Exactly where do I install them?

Jake: You can install it in a subfolder. You have to install it in a subfolder.

Me: I've already done that [I tell him what I installed and where]. So tell me what I did wrong?

Jake: Please refer to the video tutorial to install the Wordpress

Jake: Is there anything else I can help you with?

Me: You guys need to stop chatting with 10 other people simutaneously. It's annoying that it should take more than 30 minutes to answer a simple question or two.

          .........

I've had a couple chats go the way they should have and several that sounded like the tech support version of "who's on first."

Here's a good tagline for them:

Justhost. We just host. Nothing more.

I will go elsewhere next time.

It's not enough to want it... you have to want it enough.

If they have an 800 number try calling it. I have always found phone support to be better than chat support. Seems if they don't have a script to copy and paste your problem, they aren't much help. Again, this is with a different host than yours.

I have 5 Bluehost accounts and multiple websites set up in each one, and I've never encountered any problems. However as a previous poster said, you don't want to interlink sites under the same account.

Yeah, nothing wrong with it since some hosting cos have millions of customers so G can never penalise on this basis. But avoid excessive cross-linking between sites on one shared hosting account.

Nothing wrong with it as long as you aren't linking them all together to try and boost their rankings.

That's good to know. So if my intention is to build, let's say 50 sites. How many should I place on each hosting plan to not get penalized? 2, 10?

Anyone know where the hell blue host has gone!!?? I am now very worried - been complacent about backups so any sites that dont have a wp plugin doing that (and I added them but actually have no idea where any backups would have gone?) so now think cripes - this is a tough way to learn, my sites were all indexed - hundreds of pages on some - have no idea what to do right now but was already considering tyring a new host - anyone heard of heroehost.com?
