What Makes You Join a Membership Site and Stayed as a Member?

I am setting up my own membership site and would like to seek advice from Warriors who run membership sites or are member of one. See, my membership site provide PLR products on a weekly basis. It could be articles this week, software next week, ebook the week after etc.

My concern is that if I only provide plr products, the retention rate won't be high. What makes you join a membership site and stayed on as a member?

Last year around March I joined a membership site that was $40 a month. This was very scary for me at the time because I was barely making that much a month online. After signing up I even printed out the PayPal receipt that gave the details on how to unsubscribe, just so that I could get out if I needed to. But I didn't need to, I'm still a member over a year later paying $40 a month.

Here's some reasons that got me to join and got me to stay:

    1. Audio interviews were done with successful members of the forum who had success. This is great social proof. After listening to some of these, I decided to join.

    2. Forum based membership site which provides community, feedback, and mutual support.

    3. Product downloads each week (some are personal use, some MRR, some PLR)

    4. Exclusive webinars for members only

    5. A place on the forum to offer your services (members can earn some extra money offering value to others, test offers, get reviews, etc.)

    6. A membership owner who is hands on, available, and supportive.

I've gone from $40 months to my first 1K month and I attribute it to that membership (see my blog in my sig and look for the banner).

I think the overall idea is to provide more value that what you're asking someone to pay. If you follow that formula, you can't go wrong.

You have to develop a site that fits your audience/potential subscribers.

Have you really researched this project?

If you provide good quality PLR products, then are you going for a general market, or specifically for the IM, health, personal development or some other niche?

If you are concerned about whether or not PLR alone is enough to gather and retain members, then again, you need to undertake more research as you are clearly not confident with the plr membership model.

There are a raft of membership sites out there, so why not put out some feelers yourself? That is, if you have a mailing list or are an active social site(s) member, ask what they would like you to provide them and build your site from there.

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff.

there should be light at the end of the tunnel. Keep showing members whats coming up in coming months so that they can stay to see that content. That way they will not decide to leave if the content coming up next week or next month is of value to them.

A great membership will WOW it's members, giving them more than they expect in terms of products, attention and value. My worst experience was when a signed up to a membership site that obviously had an over-hyped sales page. When I got in, I saw it was badly managed inside. The products didn't live up to my expectations, and the presence of the owner seemed to be non-existent.

One which offers regular quality content additions. By regular a mean at least every month. I've joined some membership sites in the past and despite the sales letter hype what you see inside feels unfinished and too much time passes before new content is added.
