Ecommerce - New to Drop shipping

I am keen to set up an ecommerce website to sell products online but do not want to hold stock myself. I don't really know enough about drop shipping though, what it involves, what risk there is and if it requires any investment? Are any of you experts out there able to give some advice on where to start?

I can develop websites and set up an ecommerce platform - I just want to understand how I get the drop shipping set up and how complicated or easy it is to do?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Kathy

I'm kind of an inventory investor, I find people like you who want to start an eCommerce, Amazon, or eBay business. If you do the research to find hot products, I can then go to my sources in China and see how low I can find those products. Then I purchase 2 months worth of inventory based on data of how many has sold by other sellers, which gives me buying power to purchase each unit price for less and the difference + 15% is my profit while the rest of the difference is yours. If you have plans to send internationally, then I can hold the inventory and send it per request from China through some of the cheapest and most reliable shipping methods to your customers all over the world. If there are no sales within 60 days, I sell off the inventory myself.

Most manufactures offer some sort of drop shipping of their products, but it is getting harder to get on board. There are still easy ones out there to get on board. I have been the eCommerce business for 6 years now and manufactures are changing their drop shipping policies all the time.

You just need to find a product you want to sell and then contact manufactures of the product and see if they offer drop shipping and what their policies are.

There is a lot of upfront research time, but if you put the time in you will find what your looking for.

I would say the main problems are who takes liability when a faulty product gets shipped or the good arrive damaged, as long as that is clear

Also like any online business receives credit card fraud - once the drop shipper sends the good and u have to refund the fraudulently charge it can get messy

Other than that its a great way of not having to take the risk of holding your own stock

I don't really like drop shipping as the product may come and go. Sometimes there may be no stock for certain product that you are selling, which may therefore cause problem to you and your customers.
Anyhow, if you want to go with drop shipping, make sure you check with them regarding the process of returning item and refund! Because your customers will only go back to you if the products are no good, not the drop shipping company.
