Brainstorming on a Social Media Network

Hey everyone,

I've been wrestling with a strategy in my head over the past few weeks and wanted to get a few opinions on it.

I perform Internet Marketing, Social Media, and SEO services for clients. I received my first client a month or so ago. I have two social media strategies in mind.

Strategy #1 - Old School and Simple
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Blog/Website and FB/Twitter widgets on site
- Su.pr for URL shortening/tracking

Strategy #2 - Social Flood
- HootSuite, which posts to...
-- Twitter
-- Facebook
-- Ping.fm
-- MySpace (maybe...)
-- LinkedIn (maybe...)
-- FourSquare (maybe...)
- Ping.fm posts to...
-- Posterous
-- Tumblr
-- Identi.ca
-- FriendFeed
-- YouAre
-- StatusNet
-- StreetMavens
-- Photobucket
-- Yahoo Profiles
- Posterous posts to...
-- Plurk
-- Jaiku
-- TypePad
-- WordPress.com
-- Blogger
-- Picasa
-- Flickr
-- Delicious
-- LiveJournal
-- Xanga

And as additional link-building and social media, all of the main pages on my client's website will be bookmarked by most of the top sites at socialmarker and each blog post will be bookmarked as well.

Strategy 1 is simple and technically provides a way to communicate with the audience. However, through learning about social media it seems like something as extensive as Strategy 2 is necessary in order to experience the full volume of traffic one might hope for from social websites.

-- Is there a point to joining this many social sites of they are mostly auto-posted?

-- Would I be better off selecting 10 'best' sites and concentrating more fully on those?

-- What other aspects of social media am I missing?

Thanks
Nick
