How many articles do you expect from your outsourcer?

Hi,
I've just hired a content writer.
I want articles that are 300-400 words long. There's quite a bit online on the topic so he's not lacking in resources.

I'm also not fussed about his style. Provided it's factual, original and contains the keywords I'm happy.

How many articles a day should I expect from him?

Thanks

I guess it depends on who else the writer is working with and what other projects they have on.

The point I would make is that you should agree milestones and deadlines up front. Then you will actually know what you are going to get when.

gr101 - is he full time?

The best answer is for you to spend a full day doing the job yourself (do it - seriously) and then measure your own output.

Keep in mind you will get bored, want to take a break, etc. Your worker will feel the same way. Still, in an 8 hour day you should be able to finish several articles. It really depends on the topic and how much research is required.

I was thinking of 3 articles a day as well.
    Seems feasible.

I have hired him full time not on a per article basis.
I think he is new to web writing.
      His samples were really good.
He was a 4th year varsity student.

I think 3-5 articles a day (as mentioned above) seems fair?

        Hi,

It really depends what you want. Just ask her or him.

Your question is a little puzzling to me. I would expect what I contracted him to do.

Do you have an agreement that he'll do x articles per day for $xx? If so, that's what I would expect.

If you have a more subtle arrangement, such as you'll pay him $x for every article he writes for you, results will most likely vary on a daily basis, especially if and when he finds someone who will pay him $x+1 per article.

I would suggest you ask the writer what he's comfortable writing per day and make arrangements based on his answer.

If he is a full time worker, he should be able to write 5 articles per day easily. 1 hour per article should be enough for an experience article writer.

I suggest paying him per article and not per hour. That way, he will work harder and faster.

Take what you are paying him. Divide it by 3. Divide the same number by 5.

Are you happy paying that price per article for the quality you are receiving?

If you said yes, then 3-5 articles per day is perfectly fair.

If you said no, you and your writer have some things to sort out...

It all depends on quality. Can they deliver high quality content several times in one day? I have had freelancers who only seemed to have the creative juices for 2 really good articles a day and then I found a few that could deliver 5 solid articles per day. If they are a good writer then 5 is not an unreasonable expectation in my opinion. Closely monitor the quality though, you might find the first two are good and the others are lacking which would defeat the purpose of them churning out a bunch in a day.

Number of articles to be finished in a day, depends on the topic/niche. A junior staff can usually finish 8-10 articles per day, (400-500 words)

I'm somehow closer to an amateur than to a full-time writer and yet I was perfectly able to pull out 10 articles per day when I had to...

I mean, after he does his research and become knowledgeable, it's just a matter of brainstorming some titles and writing appropriate content.

It's not about how much you should expect from him. It all depends on the niche which you have given to him.

A good article must have all the key features and descriptions of the subject. It must satisfy to the need of to the topic. So it generally takes time. If the person you are hiring is a full time article writer then you may expect 4-5 best quality articles each day.

Another thing which i must point it out is that people who hire generally think they are bosses and try to rule over the writers. But the fact is that here everyone is a FREELANCER! And I think article writers are the best employees in the IM World.

    Best Wishes!
    Regards,

Since he's (or she) is newer...I wouldn't expect a ton of output...so your

expectations of 3-5 a day are fine. It should increase the more they actually perform....

if they are doing it full-time...you may want to push that number a bit though....

Paying by the hour is fine...as long as there is enough production to back it....

For example...I tell my writers what their output has to be in order to have an hours worth of wages....

2x400 words = 1hr no matter how long it takes them....

      Hope this helps...

It depends on what you need the articles for. Do you need them for your website? Or do you need them for article marketing, or do you need them simply to build backlinks?

If you need for your website, I would think you need a variety of topics based on different keywords. That could take a bit of time for the research part. But once the research is done, the actual writing doesn't take long. It's people who have to agonize over the right word, the right phrase, or how to write in own words that spend a long time writing.

It is possible to create 100 high quality articles in a day. Ask Robert Plank.

If you need articles for article marketing, you could speed things up by writing different versions.

If you need articles for backlinks, then get them spun.

Train your article writer to write fast.

If you really need that, just send your writer to me for training. [shameless plug]

3 articles a day is really too little.

3 articles a day seems to few for me. Even well researched 500 word articles would take you around 20 - 30 minutes to write each, provided you are done with the research.

If you ask him to write 5 articles on 5 different topics then it would take a lot more time.

What's your goal? Fill article directories with crap
    or create quality blog posts?

I've paid as much as $50 for one quality article
and as little as $2 for article directory filler material.

It's all about the ultimate goal.

How many articles did you request? My clients always tell me how many articles they need before hiring me. That's something you should discuss upfront.
