Automatic or manual submissions?

I hear alot now that it is better to submit say to 20 good directories rather than to hundreds. I have a list of approx 20 directories and wondering if it is better to manually submit or to use an automation service?

Thanks!

Are you talking about submitting articles, or submitting your site url to directories?

If you are submitting with the goal of driving traffic and getting other people to republish your article, I'd stick to doing the top directories manually. That will let you tailor the submission to the individual directory.

You'll find that some of the article directories have individual quirks, and ignoring them can hinder your results.

If you are submitting purely for backlinks, use the automation and have at it. One thing to know in advance though... Many of the 'directories' pop up and burn out quickly because most of them are never seen by actual humans with mice to click and credit cards to use. They never make a penny for their owners, so the owners abandon them to litter the Internet with their remains.

If that type of directory is set for automatic approval, I can pretty much guarantee it's filled with crap and spoiled spam. If it's set for editorial approval, your article is put into a queue containing the same kind of dreck and will never see the light of day.

If your time and labor consists of pasting the article into a submitter, it doesn't matter. Any result you get is a bonus.

I agree with John about a lot of directories not being seen by humans. And I have started to wonder whether any kind of automated submission is even worth the cutting and pasting and button pushing.

What I have found is that I can resubmit an article (after it gets accepted at ezine) manually to 10 better respected article directories in under 10 minutes.

I haven't timed it exactly but it is a matter of having the sites open in tabs and pasting from notepad.

I am considering whether it is worth spinning before resubmitting. Not sure yet.

why not do both? i do auto submits and then outsource the manual work. no reason to choose between the two.

Both. It depends on what you are after. If you are after traffic then your best best is submitting to the popular, high pagerank ones (EzineArticles, GoArticles, etc). If you are after backlinks as well, and you should be, then submit several to directories with pagerank 2 or above. Keep in mind these backlinks will often take a long time to show up but the patience pays off. What I would do is submit half original articles to the best directories (use your best content) and then the other half of original articles to several directories.

I would also stick with manual submission for article marketing. Although many of these automatic submission applications are effective as stated by reviews, the only thing I can trust for submissions are my hands to ensure that they are submitted properly. You’ll never know when a system glitch can happen and cause issues.

Do a mix of both. Link building should be all about variety.

When it comes to article marketing i use both methods. If my article is intended for traffic then i will manually submit to ezine articles or other top directories and if i just want to get a load of quick backlinks to a url then i spin articles and auto submit.

I like to mix it up too. I always manually submit to Ezine. I don't want to jeopardize my account and have it banned. I have been given numerous warning from Ezine from articles that I wrote myself but contained keywords that Ezine did not like-for instance "cheats".

Submitting articles manually is a must, especially for top sites like Ezine, Buzzle, GoArticles etc. I like to manage those accounts myself and promote my author feeds.

BUT, on top of that I use an automated service for extra backlinks and the 2 combined have given great results. I went from not even on any of the 79 pages for my main keywords, to page 15 in just two weeks.

Do it both ways. Automated submission may sometimes fail and you will be pushed to do it manually anyway. Added to that, there are some automated softwares that do not support submission to certain directories.

I do not think either manual or automatic submission works too well.

Personally, I like to manually submit some things. It's not that I don't trust the automated process. I just like to know what goes into it. Granted, I want my business to be AUTOMATED, but on some things, I like to do it myself. Makes me feel like I am a part of it.

I agree that the traffic isn't that great 95% of the time from manual submissions, but it gives your site more authority over time from good backlink juice. I have sites that are climbing purely because of articles and/or press releases.

I would say if you're trying to focus on actually marketing for certain sites in the 20 your going to be submitting to, to do those ones manually and then the others that youre just posting to for backlinks or whatever it is to just do automatically.

You want the real sites that you'll be pushing content on to be more genuine and possilby make a name for yourself and get it in with other users not just auto sub and have it easily identifiable you do :/ no good for traffic.

If you ever need someone to sub for you, let me know, we can sub and get thousands of viewers per submission through various different social media sites. Just PM me if your interested, if not good luck! And happy subbing!

Thanks for all these great comments and it is clear that a combination is best.

With my manual submissions, I was going to create unique articles for the likes of Ezine and Buzzle and then for all of my other manual and auto submissions, I was just going to re-submit the same article, any issues with doing this?

The only one that will have a problem is Buzzle. They only want purely original content that has not been published elsewhere.

In my experience it depends on the software used for the submission of articles- some are really effective and can do a great job. Nonetheless it is always a good job just to do some of the work yourself and make sure that everything is getting done properly

You should go for the manual submission of the articles because search engine consider manual submissions only.

Where do these notions come from?

Once your article is in the directory's database, there's no way to tell how it got there. Even most of the automated article submitters are little more than enhanced form fillers.

With all due respect, rahulbatra, you are full of beans on this one...

LOL, couldn't agree more, some people are really getting bad info out there.

I always do Google searches and use places like Wikipedia for getting answers. If I get 10 answers and 6 of them are the same, then I know which direction to head in.

Nothing substitutes for real research when looking for the right answers.

Unless you getting your answers from an experienced member here, I would take it with a grain of salt and do some of my own research.

I do both. I manually spin and submit articles in freetraffic system and top article directories and do automatic submition to many articles directory through article submitter.
