Technique To Increase The Time Visitors Spend On Your Site

If you want to keep visitors longer on your website use the following tip.

First I have a question, what is the biggest search engine behind Google? Youtube of course!

You really need to start taking advantage of video.

Go right now and make a video about your site or a blog post. Make it informative, and entertaining but no longer than 3 minutes. People have short attention spans remember that.

Now embed it on your website and tadaa! You have just implemented a simple tip that will surely make people stick around a little longer.

Have you used video to your advantage lately?

I like it. Thanks for the reminder. You really can keep visitors on your site longer by using an embedded video. Content is king, and if you are giving them good content in the video, you build interest or trust, and they will click on other pages of your site. However, if they watch the video then bail on you, there may be something lacking in the video.

The real reason for keeping people on your site longer is so they will click on the pages you want them to, your sales or opt-in pages. It helps your conversions if the visitors are already positively impressed with the information you provide, and a well-crafted video can surely make a positive impression. Your video can set the tone for how they view the rest of your site, so it is a good idea to keep it upbeat and focus on the benefits you can provide, or some snippets of information that leave the customer wanting more and willing to explore your site (or opt-in or purchase your product) to find it.

I want to DECREASE the time visitors spend on most of my sites. I want them to land on my page and then instantly click the "Buy" button and be off to the payment processor within a couple of seconds!

I see what you're getting at, but unless you are getting paid by the hour for 'time on site', how much time someone spends on a page means nothing.

Yes, I might keep people on a page longer by showing them some guy getting hit in the gonads or a kitten playing the piano, but unless watching those videos moves them closer to doing what I want them to do, who cares?

That said, an appropriate, well-done video might well put visitors into a more favorable state of mind. If video test out that it improves the percentage of visitors that take your Most Wanted Action, cool, use the heck out of it. If it detracts, skip it.

I'm saying this so often lately that I'm starting to bore myself, but it's true...

Know what you want and then keep your eyes on the prize. The 'what' is far more important than the 'how'...
