Google Update in the Works - Brands & Stores [Longtail Traffic Boost]

Just got tipped off from a friend with this.

Google looks like it is testing (and possibly soon adding) new recommended search links at the top of results pages.

(example) - might not work if outside U.S

The links take you to longtail searches. So if you clicked 'eBay' it would take you to 'eBay electronic cigarette'.

For those of you that already target longtail traffic this is a big win and should send more traffic your way.

If you are not targeting the longtail traffic terms like this then you should be!

Is it just me, or is that only a good thing for Ebay, & other large brands?

Looks like Google is trying hard to push that #1 organic position below the fold.
Its good for large brands, but also good for any website that discusses those large brands and optimizes to rank for the longtail product keywords.

Its pretty easy to land in the top ten for a lot of brand longtail keyword terms, and there's a ton of high converting traffic there. Great strategy for Amazon and eBay affiliates, or anyone reviewing or selling products from major brands.

Also I imagine Google will be basing those links on user search patterns, so if you have a brand that starts getting a lot of searches in association with another keyword you will start getting listed too.
