Hey all, just registered and new here. Internet marketing and making money online is something that I am very interested in. Let's just say that I have dipped my toes in a little bit before, but I feel I want to jump in the pool now for real.

A little background about myself. My real only experiences with Internet Marketing and alike came from a class I took at my old college when I was majoring in IT. It was an E-Commerce class taught by a professor who has a doctorate in SEO. Aside from teaching business classes, he does IM full time and definitely makes a good living doing it. He showed us some of his projects and numbers and he was constantly going to conventions and business meetings cross country. We did everything from researching niches and keywords, affiliate marketing, free traffic, web hosting/building, PPC, AdSense, online stores, dropshipping, online auctions, etc. Pretty much any way you can make money online we looked at and it definitely intrigued me. We used Clickbank for affiliate marketing and I forgot how we researched our keywords, but we covered all that. I think through the whole course, I built 2 websites in 2 terrible niches. 1 affiliate which I made no commission on and 1 product where I sold e-book bundles on a topic. I wrote some articles, did some social networking, web 2.0 stuff, trying to drive traffic etc. I learned a lot of stuff, but I just felt overwhelmed overall. I believe I spent ~$200 total for web hosting, domains, PPC, etc and only made back maybe $60. So I had a net loss, which was fine since I attribute it to being so new and still learning.

Now 2 years later, I really have always still been interested in IM. I find this forum helpful to a degree, but I have to say I am utterly lost. I don't really know what I am doing, don't know where to start and don't have anyone to teach me. I know that everyone is here for help in one form or another, but also the ultimate goal is to make a buck at the end of the day, so I understand nothing can be free. All I am asking for is some friendly advice. Where should I begin? I feel like maybe some affiliate marketing through clickbank is a good start. Possibly building a review site or blog and driving traffic to it. I'm trying to find a niche and do some keyword research, but I am stuck here. How does one go about finding a good niche? And then correlating keyword research with it? Where can I get keyword research? Probably stupid questions. I have the drive to put in the work and effort, I just don't know where to start or what to do. I have very basic knowledge of some of these IM topics. Where do I go from here? I hope I don't come across the new guy looking for handout because that isn't my intention. I just don't know what else to do.

Clickbank and affiliate marketing is definitely a great place to start. Sounds like you already got your feet wet and have a slight advantage over other beginners because you know whats going on essentially you just have to make money at it.

Start a blog in a niche that interests you for starters ask yourself what topic floats my boat? Then start a blog in that niche even if it is slightly competitive. If you have a passion for it screw it just do it. It will make it that much easier to succeed.

Drive targeted traffic to your blog through forum posting, article marketing, video submissions, classifieds, blog commenting, etc... You get the picture.

And your most important step is to start a responsive email list. The money is in the list ask any big name marketer and they will agree.....

Once you get your main blog going well down the road then start another one, then another. Rinse, wash, and repeat.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

    Hi,

I understand how you feel and your purpose of posting here. In some way or another, you also open some mindset in here. Learning is a never ending process.

In your case, since you already have some knowledge and background about IM, it won't be that difficult for you to get yourself started with it. Use all the learning you've acquired, and you are free to ask opinion to those who have gain success in this field.

Start yourself some of the basic thing to do, blogging.

Hi. Where to start, well here is my 2 cents. If you start with affiliate marketing as you did before you will be building someone elses biz for them because you as a affiliate are only focused on short term profits and that can be a mistake when it comes to building real company.

Here's what I would do if I where just starting back again
#1. Pick a profitable niche that you like and has sub niches in it with alot of back end products.

#2. Buy some plr private label rights in your niche

#3. Rewrite the sales letter and product add more stuff to it

    #4. sell the product btw $7 -$17

#5 work on cpc cost per click.

Don't move on intill you are making good sales with your product

let me know if that helps at all

    Hi there,

You have got some good skills already, which is a huge help. The best idea I can think of is to decide on a business model and then work it - stick to it and focus just on that until it is making money; and then look to your next idea.

It sounds like you already know about selecting a niche, which is a really good start. So chose a business model - for example

    Affiliate marketing
    Own product sales
    Article/video marketing
    Membership sites

And then do a search on this forum for all of the information you can about your chosen model - you will be amazed at how much information you can get on here for free

All the best with your efforts

    • Sounds like you acquired quite a few skills during the years, I think your problem comes from not knowing how to focus properly. I made the same mistake from jumping from one big thing onto the next but that way you'll always be busy chasing the dream, not living it.

Really, just pick something and stick to it, that's the best advise I can give you. This really requires discipline to ignore all the noise in IM.

        Altek,

Welcome to the forum! John_M is right on. The biggest problem I had when I started (like many many other newbies) was trying way too many things at one time. Everything looked so cool and exciting. But there are only so many hours in the day and it was impossible to do it all well.

So, like John said - pick something and stick with it. Allow yourself a little time each day to keep up-to-date on the changes in IM - perhaps come here to the forum. BUT the bulk of your day should be spent on your chosen method. Make it your "baby", nurture it, and watch it grow.

The Warriors here are sure to give you some great business models. Take some time (not too much) to gather all the information. Find one that appeals to you and take off with it!

Good luck to you. Stay focused!

        Elizabeth

Start with a blog, if you don't really know what your doing buy a blogging product, (you can also get a refund with a clickbank product).

Sounds like this is where you need to start. I'm not big into clickbank, but Michelle has a great step by step - CB Journal, Day 1: Choosing a ClickBank Product - Part I | My Passive Income Online Blog. That should point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the helpful responses guys. I do believe my mind was flooded with too many ideas and business models at once because I am basing all my experience off the 12 week class I took and we covered a bit of everything, so that was where my mind was. I'm going to definitely give affiliate marketing a good first try. The way we did it in the class was basically pick a niche, find 3 good products on Clickbank related to my niche and marketed them through a review site (which I guess is considered a blog?). Then we drove traffic, both free and paid to the review site/blog. I think this is the model I am going to try again. Does that sound like something that would be viable for a beginner like me? Any tweaks or changes someone would make that has done this before? I know my first step is finding a niche with good keywords and search results, but I honestly forgot how we did keyword research and how it related to search results worked. Any ideas on where to start? I will definitely take all the advice I have received so far. Thanks a lot everyone.
