Try Steve's fix above. I also responded to your PM with a little more info than that, but it should be what you need. If not, reply to my PM and we'll try and get you fixed up some other way. Quote:
Try changing your permalink structure to something more keyword friendly in the admin. Then, make sure you're putting the code in the .htaccess in the root of your blog installation. (Changing the permalink structure will mean the right htaccess MUST have some Wordpress code in there, and it'll make it easier to make sure you're messing with the right one.) Then, to test your GoCodes, you go to http://www.yourdomain.com/go/redirect_key The redirect key should be what you configured in the GoCodes admin, and the above URL should redirect to the link you specified in the same place in the GoCodes admin. Hope that helps!

Thanks Keith It's working now. I had tested it before and understood what it was supposed to do, but I was getting the error page when tested. All is working now. Excellent thread! BTW, what I am going to do is add some of the eBay rss affiliate ads that Google loves using the phpbay.org plugin which has a free lite version. Plus make some original posts. I think that will be a good mix. Quote:

For instance in my Wordpress Writing settings, I have a list of about 60 services which are automatically contacted, letting them know that an update is available. Here are some of those on this list: http://1470.net/api/ping http://api.feedster.com/ping.php http://api.moreover.com/ping http://api.moreover.com/RPC2 http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2 http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping http://bblog.com/ping.php http://bitacoras.net/ping/ What is the difference between the two lists you mentioned and is additional work (other than the automatic pinging from Wordpress) required to contact those lists? This is a great post and thanks - I am working on setting up my blog and have all plug-ins installed and go codes has been tested and is working. i am unsure how to work wp-o-matic. The whole rss feeds is actually confusing me and my web searches have only made that condition worse. Do I simply find another blog (or other content) that has an rss feed and put it into wp-o-matic? Any help would be appreciated. I also look forward to getting this set-up in an hour like Keith mentions in OP. Regards |

Sometimes, there is overlap, as some blog services feature pinging AND are RSS aggregators, but some sites are just one or the other. In the simplest terms, pinging is about notifying a server that you have updated, so subscribers to that service know you have new content. Submitting your RSS link to aggregator sites is about actually pushing your content out to other sites where it can be searched by visitors, or even picked up and republished. Hope that makes sense and clears up any confusion.

Keith, thanks for your response. When you say that the RSS sites that are submitted to require filling out forms and registering with them - is this something that needs to be done just the once or do they need to be contacted more frequently? In other words, if I have 200 rss sites to contact for a particular blog, do I have to go back to them with reminders or is it sufficient to just contact them every time I want to register a new blog with them? Also, is there a short-list of 'must-have' RSS sites to register with? AFTERTHOUGHT: Is there a level of content a new site should have reached before submitting to these RSS sites, for instance a minimum of 10 posts? Ivan |

Hi Keith, Went through your post but it was all over my head and I could not understand as I have never worked with wordpress before. Does your method have anything in common with Brian Johnson's SEO Press. I have purchased that package but am yet to go through it. When I do finally get my wordpress blog going I will be referring to your thread often as it seems to give concise instructions which have worked for you. Thanks for sharing your insights. regards Nikhil |

Looking at the site now though, they have a variety of licensing options. I must have an older version of the plugin (for Wordpress 2.1) - I don't think mine is limited as far as number of bookmarks, etc. Also, I'd definitely only use ASP on original posts (or at least long form PLR articles rather than snippets). That being said, any of their available licenses is probably PLENTY for anybody. Quote:
Glad you liked my method, and thanks for your kind words. I'm not familiar with Brian Johnson's product, so I can't say if it has anything in common or not (I'll check it out sometime though, so thanks for the recommendation). However, you're not going to get much out of my method until you become familiar with at least the basics of WordPress and using it with plugins. The expanded tutorial I'm working on (hopefully for release next week) assumes that you can get WordPress and the plugins installed on your own. I hope to be able to recommend a few beginner resources for newbies unfamiliar with WordPress, but I need to do more research, as I've been using WP for a number of years and am self-taught with the tutorials at WordPress.org. P.S. If anyone has any recommendations of WordPress courses for beginners, please let me know your experiences via PM.

An alternative to the plugin Auto Social Poster could be BookMarking Demon, which is a desktop application that has been getting excellent reviews in another thread on this forum. Social Bookmarking Demon v4 It is half the price of Auto Social Poster but is due to double in price when vs 4 is released (currently in beta). For a direct link with more details (not an affiliate link): Social Bookmarking Software, Social Bookmarking Tool Another way of doing it is to use Post Toaster, which is free and web-based, and to use RoboForm to insert details into the forms. The link for Post toaster is: http://www.posttoaster.com/ Ivan |

Hey Everyone, I have been reading and taking notes on this post. I have done a similar thing in the past but just with adsense, I noticed everyone is having a bit of trouble with a few key areas, If you let me know what they are I might be able to get my programmer to explain them in plain English, Here are the common ones I have read on this thread- - Getting wp-o-matic to work - setting up crons in cpanel - using gocodes with affiliate links, Have a missed anything, D Most here know how to set up a wordpress blog using fantastico I think |

I know this is the lazy approach to getting a question answered.. but this thread is so long and I have to run (will check answers tonight).. Using this method - does it matter if you if you build your blogs (webpages) around a .com or .info (only .99)... since from what I've read so far you really aren't counting on generic seo traffic ( I think I'm right in saying that).. Didn't know if it mattered if/when you decided to sale/flip the site???? |

Anyone been able to come up with some good places to get RSS feeds based on keyword searches? The problem I have is that some of keyword based feeds return results totally not related to the keyword.

![]() For the domains, it makes no difference on the technical side. A .com or a .info will work equally well. When you go to FLIP the site, it all depends on what the buyer THINKS matters. Some folks hate .info. However, if the site is performing well, no one who knows their stuff will care. If you're buying domains to use this method for FAST flipping (ie, turning over the sites when they're brand new) I'd recommend a .com just to avoid the prejudice. Thanks. Glad you like it. I thought I'd take a minute to give you my experience with activating the go_code plugin on some of my blogs today. Actually the plugin is dead simple to install and implement, it's the .htaccess files that can have you pulling your hair out! First of all, let me explain that I have hostgator and multiple domains and subdomains installed on my server. If you have a wordpress install within a domain AND you've set the permalinks settings from within your WP control panel, you'll have an .htaccess file WITHIN THAT (SUB)DOMAIN. You won't see it in the legacy file manager but it shows up in the new file manager in cPanel. This is what it looks like: # BEGIN Wordpress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> # END Wordpress In the documentation for the go codes, it says do this: Place the following code in your .htaccess file, above the line that says "# BEGIN WordPress": `RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^go/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]*)/?$ /index.php?gocode=$1 [L,R] This example assumes your blog is located at the root of your domain. If your blog is located at yourdomain.com/blog/, then you should change "/index.php" to "/blog/index.php". If that works for you, great! It didn't work for me!! Instead, just copy and paste the Line beginning with RewriteRule here: # BEGIN Wordpress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^go/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]*)/?$ /index.php?gocode=$1 [L,R] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> # END Wordpress If it's in the same directory as the Wordpress install, don't mess with that "/blog/index.php" crap. That should fix the problem, if not just ask me and I'll try to help. Steve |

One of the things that I like about Caffeinated Content for WordPress (CC4W) is that it adds a picture to each post automatically. I don't even have to look for the pictures. It just does it. I don't know how. I have tried to find a plugin that would search and automatically add a photo to each of the wp-o-matic posts. It has to be possible because CC4W does it. Does anyone know of such a plugin? Of course, free would be very good. I tried looking on the web (google) but really couldn't find anything. Photodropper is nice but you have to physically go back then search and add the photo. That's not automatic. I don't know about you but posts with photos always seem more appealing. Thanks. Brian |

I was looking for something similar and, I just found this the other day. It may help: WordPress › Auto Post Images (API) WordPress Plugins I haven't used it myself yet, and it's not quite what Caffeinated does, but I intend to work it into my method depending on testing. Basically, you need to get a bunch of images in advance, but they would get automatically added to posts in sequence (at least, that's what it says it does). So it's not fully automated, in that it requires prep work. However, that's true of this entire method, really. The real "work" here is in the setup, and the first few weeks of tweaking the feeds to make sure you're getting relevant content. Once you're done with the tweaks and all that, you never need to touch them again. (At least in my experience). Okay, back to work!

I am looking for some good plugin that can automatically post videos to specified categories. It should pull the videos, that match given keywords, from video sites like youtube, metacafe, dailymotion, etc. One such plugin is 'organic blog poster' but it conflicts with seo permalink structure and they still don't have the fix for it ( you must have the default url structure in WP with this plugin). If you know of any automated video plugin that works without conflicts please post it here. Almin |

I'm interested in installing a plugin that will post articles at pre-determined times. This will give more variety to the content than using only RSS. For instance, pre-loading 30 articles could provide supplementary material for several months. One program I've come across is Wordpress Article Import Plugin. From the website: Quote:

[QUOTE=vicone;294517]I'm interested in installing a plugin that will post articles at pre-determined times. Ivan[/QUOT Wordpress Article Import Plugin and another one by the name of ZipPoster [which I've tried] both work by uploading a zip file as you mention. The problem is that a number of web hosting companies won't allow you to upload a zip file for security reasons through this kind of wp plugin. ZipPoster has a small list of some hosts that will allow it, others may turn on the capability and some won't allow it on shared hosting. I am interested if anyone has another solution for this kind of article poster as well. |

This is sort of a corollary to this technique, so I thought I would bring it up since there are several creative problem solvers in this thread and it could be used right alongside the process described in this thread. I am told that WP-O-Matic can also be used to import affiliate linked RSS feeds of eBay auctions as posts. I've tried it but WP-O-Matic won't process the eBay RSS feeds as they come straight out of EPN. Somebody recommended that I try to run the feed through Feedburner and use that feed, but it still doesn't fetch any posts. Anyone have any ideas about this? |

Thanks for the fantastic info Keith. I was keen to do something similar earlier this year but was put off by various articles & opinions. Great to hear your method works. I have a test site up and running already. Got a few questions.... 1) Do you aim for a main keyword (and have that as your domain name) then create categories for all secondary keywords? 2) Do you name each category the same as the keyword? 3) How many categories do you have on average? Thanks again for this excellent thread! Ant |

I use a free plugin called Sniplets. You can download it here. Sniplets Plugin - Insert text, include AdSense, highlight code, run PHP | Urban Giraffe I use this plugin along with the free phpbay to bring in eBay ads to all the posts. It will even post the eBay ads to previous posts. I have used it on sites where I have over 400 previous article posts and it went back and posted the eBay ads on all of them. The downside is because it is automatic it will post the same ads on every post. However because the eBay ads change very frequently I don't find this as a problem. Ideally I would like to put a slightly different catagory of eBay ad on each post but in line with this super thread that Keith has given us as being as near automatic as possible I can live with the shortcomings of this plugin. Sniplets will post nearly anything you want in your posts. Chet Hastings

I've been setting up sites for quite a while where I come up with the keyword title for the post and then the post will have 10 ebay auctions that update automatically each time (as phpbay, bayrss, wordbay, etc. do), but I want these to be automatic posts with just one auction each. I know that others are using WP-O-Matic for this purpose to build product only sites, but I want to incorporate it into the techniques described in this thread for SEO purposes.

Keith, Thank you for starting this thread and taking the time to answer our questions. I finally got all the elements working together now using wp-o-matic, cron, and gocodes. The blog is grabbing new RSS feeds everyday and the keywords in wp-o-matic are linking to the correct affiliate links through gocodes. However, on many occassions, after wp-o-matic grabbed the RSS feeds, I found more great keywords. I quickly added the new keywords to wp-o-matic but wp-o-matic would not create new links for those new keywords. It would only generate new links whenever it runs another new RSS feed. How do you instruct wp-o-matic to generate new keyword links on old RSS feeds? Thanks. Chris |

I wouldn't worry too much about going back to the old posts, since those posts have already spread after you first published. Just add to the blog whenever you think of new stuff. Let it grow over time. If you really want to put links on your site globally (in your archive too) you can use SEO Smart Linker. However, that plugin inserts the links at the time the blog renders. They don't actually appear in your post content in the database. I haven't tested enough to know the significance of that, but it's an important distinction between the way those plugins work. Hope that helps!

Wow, everything took me a little longer than most to get set up and going but I FINALLY got wp-o-matic, cron, and gocodes working together beautifully but it was more challenging than I initially expected. I have also learned from this experience how not all RSS feeds are equal in how they distribute information. This was also a learning experience for me in learning how to modify my own RSS feeds...for my purposes I want to make sure my FULL RSS feed is available...but other times you may only want deliver a partial. So, having a quality source of RSS feeds would be really really helpful to get started with...hint hint for that upcoming quality WSO! Just a quick side note to those of you who blatantly jumped the gun and made some rather quick and harsh criticism about this thread...go back and take the time to read this exhaustive thread then take the time to contribute something useful. Any technique can be used for the wrong purpose, but, correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't get that impression at all and I can see where everyone truly benefits using this model. Anyway, thanks again Keith and everyone here for taking the time to share and contribute to this thread...it's why Warriors Rock! Kindest regards...Leah |

Thank - This is great info. I have WPOM up and loaded with feeds and then it went and posted 165 of the same posts (thankfully as drafts). I had to delete wpom to access the site to find this out. I have searched for a solution to what I am doing wrong but have no idea. I did not set up cron and thought I had it set up to fetch once a day. Is the the problem the number of post I have set to fetch (10) or the number of feeds for the campaign (3). This is the second time I had this issue. I am sure the answer is staring me in the face but am lost atm. Thanks |

Keith and everyone else here, Thanks again for all the great info in this thread. One thing I found is that the rewrite function will replace words and links in your urls and as a result it render them useless. One person suggested using the Cross Linker plugin to correct this issue. Here is an alternate solution that I figured out today. It is by using Regular Expressions to narrow down on only the keyword. So for example, if your keyword is "herbal" then in the Orgin box you can use this expression: / herbal / Note the space before and after the keyword, you will need these spaces so that it will replace only the word "herbal" when it's used in a sentence and not other forms of the word "herbal" such as "herbalife". These spaces also will keep you from destroying any urls because you won't have any spaces in any urls. I hope this tip is of value for all. Oh and one quick question, if I may. Does anyone have a solution for the fact that when you rewrite the word it trims out any spaces in the resulting content? For example, if your sentence is: This all natural herbal product is amazing. when you rewrite it turns into: This all naturalherbalproduct is amazing. I have tried putting spaces before and after the word in the Rewrite to: box but it still trims out the spaces. I have spent some time googling no luck in finding a solution. thanks again, |

| thanks steve, In my search I found where others said it didn't work. However, I went ahead and tried it myself. It doesn't work, also when you enter it into the Rewrite To: box and then hit submit and go back you see that it is automatically removed by the plugin. Do you see the spaces in your posts? Maybe it's just me? Or maybe I need to wrap it in a tag?? |

Thanks Keith for answering my previous questions. I have found a great plugin to help me add keyword links after the post was published. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...tic-seo-links/ I like the fact that it only creates a link for the first keyword match in a post so the link wouldn't look too spamming to viewers and google. ![]() ~Chris Edit: I forgot to check if the links are hard coded. They are not. The links are inserted dynamically whenever the blog is viewed. So, it might not fly well with search engines. |

Does the Gocodes plugin automatically scan for the word you specify and then turn it into the link (the URL you enter in the config)?
