Is it bad to buy a prebuilt website if there are many being sold???

I see some nice websites for sale here on this site. But many say they are selling a number of the same sites (usually around 25). I was thinking of buying some. Is it bad to buy a site where there are exact duplicates out there? I would buy my own domain name.

Don't do it, you want your site to be unique. You could buy the site and change it, that would work, but you don't want anyone to have an exact copy of your site.

What, you mean using the same tired old gazette theme from woo themes with some PLR content slapped on top is a bad thing?

I thought it was good to blend into the crowd.

They are a good deal if you are a complete dimbulb and need the Fisher Price My First Website starter kit.

On behalf of the people who sell these sites, they are meant to be a starting point where you are expected to further develop the sites with more unique content.

My advice, skip the Niche In A Box sites, write ( or have written for you ) some unique content and hit up themeforest for a better theme. Might cost you an extra $50 bucks but at least you'll have a site you can be proud of and you wont have 25 ( or more ) cyber twins.

It depends if you're targets are going to see the other sites, for an SEO biz I ran I used a free template that probably 90 other service biz's used, but it didn't matter because of the group I targeted. I saw good conversion rates with that site.

It's hard to say bro, but there are some effective sites out there and it seems like a waste to pay money to have one customized(just my opinion)

If you are new to web designing and you are getting them cheap, then its better to buy them

Not necessarily, as long as you're planning to change it so that it won't stay an exact duplicate.

I would strongly suggesting making your own - there's usually a reason they are looking to get rid of them cheap and it's better to produce your own from the ground up.

Lord, why doesn't anyone give supporting data for their opinions?

I would say you dont want to own an exact copy of another website but if you buy a well written ready made one with proper theming (i.e. what google expects to see on that subject rather than from a wordpress theme point of view) then it is a good place to start IF you are prepared to rewrite some of the content. Add some quality backlinks and some additional pages you write or have written and you could be onto a winner.

But if you buy a ready made site that is the same as everyone elses then you are probably not going to get your money back.

But I have no proof of either just my opinion.

Because, in this instance, nobody can reasonably be expected to have split-tested a statistically significant number of otherwise exactly comparable sites in a meaningful way, with objective results which would actually be evidential - let alone probative - of anything, and it's therefore clear that unsubstantiated opinions are invited.

That dup content algo is bad news. It can kill the rank for your page. This is why content scrapers hurt you. Often Google will rank the scrape. They then crush the original page. Not sure why this is so. The effect is your traffic goes to zero.

If you don't plan on doing anything with the site, like add your own content, then it is a waste of money. But if you plan on adding your own content, I would say that getting a premium theme, commercial plugin, content, keywords, etc is a dirt cheap way to get started, particularly if you aren't skilled at getting a decent looking site up and running.

As for the duplicate content ... same old myth. Google indexes duplicate content. All the time, but if you want no duplicate content, simply rewrite the starter articles.

I think if you are trying to build a unique brand and build out 1 big honking website you probably want to go with a unique site.

But, if you want to put up a bunch of nice looking niche sites quickly then premade blogs are the way to go, especially if you have already done your keyword research and have a great exact match domain to put them on.

As stated above, though, you do need to add to them... they are just a starting point for people who prefer to focus on promoting and adding content instead of the site building and graphics.

just re-write the content if your worried about it being a duplicate, either way its not bad at all.

but i suggest you do research on the market 1st to see what you can possible do with the site.
