Can anyone outline the steps for turning your ebook into a Kindle product to be sold on Amazon?

Thanks,

Why not turn them into a real book with on demand publishing... Amazon ranks really well in G - so if you do the title right you can have your product on page 1. Plus you'll have the trust element that goes along with Amazon.

Essentially you need to have your book converted to an AZW format and placed in the Kindle store for publication. There are a couple of ways of doing this.

The most common way is to use Amazons DTP (Digital Text Platform) and upload your book in HTML format, DTP will perform the conversion and will also place your book for sale on the Kindle store.

You'll have to modify your book to eliminate page numbers, you use a hyperlinked table of contents instead - Kindle users can select font size and page orientation so page numbers are irrelevant.

I actually answered this question earlier in this thread, you may want to visit it for more detailed information:

Best of luck with your eBook and please let me know if you need any assistance.

If you have your source file for the ebook in Word, the most simple step is to save it as a Web page (filtered). If you have fancy formatting or a table of contents some more work is needed, so you can look at the links provided here by the other posters in the thread.

I use a special book formatting Word add-in to help me quickly format my books for their print editions, but I use the same word file to create PDF ebooks and to create my Kindle books.

I start with the steps outlined above, except that my ebook has an image of the cover on the first page. The formatting is also saved in a CSS stylesheet within the saved HTML file. I strip the stylesheet out and put it in its own file and create a link to that file. If I have a table of contents, I use an HTML editor (you can use any text editor) and create links to the chapter headings - I have actually built my own Excel template to speed up the process for me and generate the HTML code for me.

When I'm finished, I add the HTML file, the stylesheet file, and all images into a single zip file and upload that to Amazon.

Sorry about taking this long to reply. I haven't been following this thread for a while.

I've been using the Book Design Wizard 2.0 for Microsoft Word from Self-Pub.net for more than 3 years now and it's an excellent product to help you format your book very quickly to look like a professionally formatted book: Book Design Wizard 2.0 - Book Template Software. It is currently selling for $37.

This is really an add-in for Word and actually just sets up the document styles as well as the page and document layout for you. It is actually intended for use in printed books (POD), but once I've formatted a POD book using this software, I save a copy for my PDF e-books and Kindle e-books. I only add an additional page with a picture of my frontcover for the e-book version.

You can read it on your PC or MAC as well. Amazon has programs on their site.
