Newbie question about ranking my site

Hi,

I own several country specific domains

ie/ .co.uk

and was wondering if it is possible to get these ranked in the US search results.

My sites aren't country specific but unfortunately I couldn't get the .com domain names.

If I do all my backlink building to my .co.uk domain - will i still be able to get myself seen in the US results??

Thanks!

Are you ranked high in the Google UK?

I think I have seen one ".co.uk" ranked on the first page of Google US. You don't see it much, but I guess it could be done.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

AFAIK, domain extensions (TLDs) don't have anything to do with SEO. I could be wrong though.

'$80' doesn't really answer my question!

    greetings jessie,

One thing you can do, is sign up to google webmasters tools (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/), add the sites in quest into it. and Set their country to the US.

You can rank a .co.uk globally if you want, just be aware generally it's alot harder to rank a cctld (country domain - like .co.uk or .com.au) in the global rankings, it can be done...

Yes it can be done. You can rank a country specific domain for the US market. Its a bit difficult, but its possible. You need to register the site with the google webmasters tools and specify the country as USA.

Then provide content which is targeted at the US market and some American based addresses on the pages.

When writing content, use American English words on the pages... for example, write "honor" instead of "honour".

Avoid placing any content of a different language on the site. Backlink from American based sites.

Help the search engines understand that its for the english speaking audience.
