First Website Possibly

Hi everyone. So i was thinking about starting my first website to start earning a income online since nothing else i tried would work. The exact keyword doesn't get much searches at all though. google said something like 1300 a month which is terribly low so i was thinking about a more general keyword which will get more searches a month. something like 33,000. If i do alot of seo on it could would it be worth it? Also i will have affiliate programs on it along with some articles. But the majority of the website will be pictures. I was thinking about giving away like $10 a week for the best picture or something once i start making a good amount with it to try and drive more traffic to it. there would also possibly be a forum. do you guys think this is too big of a task for a somewhat newbie to website building as well a a newbie to internet marketing? thank you for reading.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Find a CMS, like Drupal or Wordpress to handle the heavy loading on the site design. Focus on promotion. With regards to your keywords, you need to think more broadly. Think of the niche you are targeting as a whole. Consider this, for just 2 of the properties I manage, they each get traffic from more than 500 unique keyword phrases monthly. You'll have a couple 'money' keywords that you're consistently trying to rank for and thats great, but achieving high rankings for the long tail in your niche will come first and help to build your rankings on those money keywords.

This. I have been trying to reinvent the wheel so many times (or reinvent hot water, as said where I come from) and I have failed every single time.

Stick to the tested methods and apply them.

So your site will be mostly like an image hosting website? If you will pick a general keyword then most likely you will ran into a lot of competitors. But of course it will still depend on which keyword you want to rank for. I suggest that you stick to 50% content and 50% images. Well I do believe that search engines love content thats why they say "content is king", right?

Your plan will suit you fine. Just take it slowly but surely. Good luck on your first website!~

Yeah i guess you could say that it would be a image hosting site. People will upload pictures so other people could look at them and after the site is making good revenue i thought i would start giving back by having a contest where people vote for their favorite picture of the week and they would win $10 or something. I mean it will take time but i was just wondering if it would be worth it.

The likelihood of anyone having great success on their first site is extremely low. But, having some success, early on, is important. It's good to set the bar low at first and gradually raise it higher and higher as you become more experienced.

It sounds like this is something you may care about. Might I suggest building a few sites that are simple; following proven methods.

When you have experience and confidence you can apply what you have learned to markets that matter to you personally, and be successful.

Domain names are cheap and wordpress is easy. Practice makes perfect.

First of all, you will never know if it will be worth it unless you take action and make it happen. As far as going after keywords with 33,000 searches, that's awesome, but the competition is probably going to be very high for that. Take a look at the top 10 in Google and see if you have a chance to compete.

You can compete in any market if you are prepared to spend the time and/or money to get there. Are you prepared to spend money on a high page rank domain and seo efforts like backlinking?

You are going to need content too. Pictures are great but there has to be some content so Google can index you and try to figure out what your site is about.

    Good luck.

You seem to have this well thought out... you only need to understand that like everything else, success sometimes takes time. Work at it... build the site, add the necessary content. Work on promoting the site.

Create accounts on Twitter and get followers while spreading word about the website. Use a tell-a-friend script so your visitors can refer more friends to your site. Do the necessary internal and external SEO work.

If you need more knowledge about what to do... read more...get the information you need about starting this type of image site. Its a good idea.
